Georges Lignier’s holdings in this jewel of a 1er Cru account for nearly half of the entire vineyard.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2021 “Clos des Ormes” pours a ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with beautiful notes of fresh forest berries: strawberry, raspberry, freshly cut red flowers, some finely ground black pepper, dried green herbs and a kiss of fine, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. What a lovely, rustic expression of Burgundy! This is the most soulful Georges Lignier I’ve had so far. The 2021 vintage may have played a part (I’m a fan of these cooler, harder vintages). Whatever, this is awesome and killer with rabbit sausage and lentils. Drink now (and take your time with it) or enjoy through 2046. — 2 months ago

The more I have of this Cuvée, the more I like it.

The nose reveals; lemon parfait, lemon meringue, golden apple with green apple that layers underneath it, grapefruit, fresh pineapple, honeysuckle, marzipan, cream, toast, caramel, hints of ginger, sea shells, verbena, soft chalkiness, yellow lilies, fruit blossoms and spring flowers.

The body is soft, rich, creamy mousse and lively in the mouth. The palate is lemon sorbet, lime zest, honeysuckle, pineapple, verbena, golden apple, some green apple, caramel, light spice that brings some palate heat, toast, hints of ginger, marzipan, silvered almond, brioche, beautiful nice chalkiness, sea spray, grey volcanic minerals that penetrate into your palate, yellow lilies, fruit blossoms and spring flowers. The acidy is very nice...well executed, the long, rich, balanced finish is quite enjoyable and persists on the palate for minutes.

Lemon lagoon biscuit monster broke the pack with a thin layer of lemon marmalade, a twist of lemon peel to tease the nose. Generous melon and merengue, apple tart, pineapple sorbet, lime, lime pith and sour orange. This is depth! I won’t insult with adgective over-indulgence: powerful.

Very big dried cherries with mint on the nose, not unlike an aged alto Piemonte, but simplified. Dried cranberry, raspberry sorbet too. The fruit comes alive with some air. High acid, could live longer and still be of interest. There’s roasted poblano in there. The tannins are very soft now, like a merlot, but the finish has some light fine grip. Some kind of earth, nothing lush here. Spice on the finish too. $21 — 6 years ago

Nose of delicate oak, Meyer lemon, and bee pollen. The pallet hits with a rush of acidity, minerality, and that sweet Meyer lemon again, almost like a lemon sorbet, with a ripe pineapple finish and honey. The more it sits the more complex it gets. 49% Grenache, 39% Carignane, 11% Syrah and 7% Mourvedre. Im giving the addition of Carignane from 90 year old vines (Wirz vineyard - Cienega Valley), two thumbs up!

Fruity notes of watermelon and strawberry, fuzzy peach skins in both taste and mouthfeel. Acidity is nicely balanced, keeping everything crystal.

A real suncatcher of a rose.
Fantastic on its own, and could envision it being enjoyed as sangria or sorbet too.
Let the good times roll!
