Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.
En mag. Probably the most difficult wine of the night to identify. Hardly anyone even got close to calling this cab. I was leaning Grenache or ripe vintage burgundy as I thought I was detecting a bit of whole cluster usage due to the lifted profile and stemmy/spice red fruit notes. Yet by the end of the night, the structure beefed up and the spice turned more sweet. Lovely cherry liqueur, sandalwood, baking spices and baked red fruited pie notes. — 7 years ago
This was simply sublime and a fantastic celebration treat! — 8 years ago
Decanted, deep spices that open slowly, long intensity with increasing focus and a long taper. We only waited two hours after pouring through a Vinturi. We could have waited more if we were going to be in town tomorrow. A great 60th birthday celebration. 2001 on 10/22/17. — 9 years ago
Waited a year to open this bottle in celebration of my wife and I’s wedding anniversary. Raspberry, strawberry, tart, smooth, yet slightly acidic. Might be biased due to the occasion, but this bottle is really amazing! Happy anniversary to my beautiful bride ❤️ — 2 years ago
Celebrating my son’s first #birthday certainly merits the serving of some lovely wine 🍾🍷 What a wonderfully challenging yet humbling year it’s been raising a tiny baby into a little boy with a big heart, a loud laugh, and a captivating smile. I hope and pray today’s celebration is but one of many chapters.
My final bottle of Caymus from before the fall (if you will). Drank remarkably well this evening. Loads of mulled spices, eucalyptus and clove, plums, blackberries, and worn leather. Resolved tannins. Very smooth. — 6 years ago

My Boka Birthday Celebration with my Main Babe! — 2 years ago
After a month off of any type of ethanol content to prepare for a marathon that I ran and finished earlier today, it's about time for me to come back on here. My first entry post break and race is a celebration post. And what better way to celebrate than with a proper bubbly?
The nose shows some reductive notes of sour apple, along with green apple, brioche and croissant. It's very inviting. The palate is very dry and acid driven but shows again these superb notes of croissant and some lemon curd too. The bubbles are subtle and complement the pastry notes very well. The finish is fresh, lemony, zingy and quite long. It's really a great champagne and it's been a while since I last tasted such a quality one. Great stuff and perfect way of celebrating a sport achievement ✌🏻 — 3 years ago

Complicated! My first try of Madeira. Mince pie in a glass. If it was like this one, I can see why the founding forefathers drank 50 bottles of Madeira after signing the Declaration of Independence. — 7 years ago
