Baxter

Valenti Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

Phil Baxter is the man. Always pure, clean, transparent winemaking. I prefer the Oppenlander vineyard but this is delicious. 6-7 years seems a sweet spot for these AV PNs. — 9 days ago

Switchback Ridge

Peterson Family Vineyard Petite Sirah 2009

Color is still a deep ruby/garnet with a nose of plums, black tea, black pepper, and hints of dark chocolate. Amazingly smooth, this Petite Sirah has developed nicely over 13 years. Fruit is still there, but florals are popping out and the texture is wonderful. Full-bodied, bold, powerful wine given to me by a friend. Paired with prime NY strip and ribeye = perfection. — 15 days ago

Geyserville California Zinfandel Carignan 1976

Quite pretty and savory on the nose. Stinky fruit. A lot of character. A little short and astringent on the finish — 10 days ago

Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir 2020

I love these guys. Probably my favorite Oregon winery. I was a little worried about the 2020, and possibly these is a hint of smoke, but mostly delicious. Strawberry jam. No tannin. — 9 days ago

Rivers-Marie

Occidental Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

Shay A
9.3

My 2016 Rivers Marie Pinots are about gone…SummaOV is left. Occidental, Silver Eagle and SummaOV are always my favorites. I’m between a 93-94 here.

Great example of a Pinot that has a lot of power but plenty of balance. Deep black cherry colored in the glass but the aromatics are much more savory than expected. There’s an animalistic/feral quality to this initially (that I love) showing a smoked meat flair alongside dark blood orange and ripe black cherries. Commanding mouthfeel and great acidity. Continual back and forth of dark berry fruit and savory/herbal notes. The use of whole cluster is noticeable but it does a good job complimenting the wine (more high toned) and not taking center stage (as in, not overly stemmy/green). Wonderful lengthy finish. More brooding and savory than Silver Eagle but certainly not in the vein of a “cab lovers pinot” style. This was delicious and likely hangs in this window for at least 5+yrs.

Guadagni Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2019

Popped too young, but I just wanted to open it, dammit. Classic fairly old-school Zin nose, with brambly blackberry, a bit of American oak, and stony gravel. Fairly tight in the mouth. I love the focused fruit, which is not jammy in the least. It’s very dry (which is almost jarring these days of jammy Zins with residual sugar), and it’s got some youthfully drying tannins. Needs, and will be better in, at least 2-3 years, but enjoyable now. — 16 days ago

Shake Ridge Ranch Zinfandel 2019

Not a big Zinfandel guy. This might make me one. Tart strawberries, fresh fruit, clearly natural but not harshly funky or overbearing. Really good. — a day ago

McNab Ridge

Family Reserve Largo Mendoza Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Nice Mendicino Cab. Dark ruby color. Intense nose of black cherry and vanilla cream. The very busy pallet includes dark cherries and currants with hints of cocoa, tobacco, baking spices and that ever present vanilla. Soft but rich at the same time. The finish just goes on and on. Aged 26 months in French Oak. Also a great value! Appreciate you sharing this one, Kase! — 16 days ago
