These guys have been making Grappa since 1885 and that's what they do first and foremost. They use their decades old relationships to secure the best pulp and then age their spirit in oak barrels, which gives the golden tint to the coloring and adds a smoothness and a roundness that is unlike any Grappa I've ever had. Grappa is not by any stretch on my go to list for sipping spirits. But this makes a good case to be considered. — 8 years ago

Pronounced “Es-peck-tuckle dell Mont-sunt.” Located in so-called armpit of Spain’s prestigious wine country principally because of its rustic quality. Deep Ruby with intense fruit aromas and sweet floral spice, aged 15 mos in French oak, from a warm dry vintage. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and raspberry with currants, sweet cacao, floral & pepper spice. Fine big tannins, well balanced with long finish finesse, ending with herb and spice, adding slight alcohol warmth. — 4 years ago
Dark ruby red to the edge. Dry full bodied with nice balance of fruit and tannins. — 6 years ago
Castell'in Villa's 2015 Chianti Classico is a gorgeous wine that will delight readers who enjoy the Chianti Classicos of this reference-point estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga. Crushed flowers, mint, licorice, dried herbs, cedar and tobacco give the 2015 lovely aromatic complexity. The 2015 is perhaps a bit more open than young wines tend to be here, but then again, 2015 is a warm vintage that generally yielded accessible Chianti Classicos. All that means is that the 2015 can be enjoyed with less cellaring than is the norm here. As it so often is, the Castell'in Villa Chianti Classico is a wine of real pedigree and distinction. Tenuta dell’ Ornellia’s entry level offering. Blend of Merlot (50%), Sangiovese (30%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Dark ruby/purple color. Ripe red fruit aromas with hints of tobacco, purple flowers, spices, crushed stones and garrigue. Ripe strawberry, cherry and red currant on the creamy pallet with notes of spices, vanilla, orange zest and cedar. Juicy and luscious. Just a baby, (nicely balanced) but there is a lot to like here. Outstanding QPR! Punches way above its price weight. Happy Birthday Kieth S! — 4 years ago

An interesting and fruity #Syrah. Enjoyed this bottle on an unexpectedly stormy day on the Cape, so it was fitting given the weather. Here, the bottle is pictured posing with a garish sculpture found in our Airbnb. Needless to say, we preferred the bottle to the sculpture. 🗿 — 8 years ago
