Bodegas Vinicola Real

200 Monges Reserva Rioja Tempranillo Blend 2012

Expressive nose, a bit reduced at first, then on ti ripe cherries, cocoa, liquorice , plums. Ample bodied, son of a dry and hot vintage, acidity that holds the alcohol and hood length and youth for a 2012. Remarkable, unexpected village, Albelda, must be the high land on the way to Clavijo. — 9 months ago

Scarpa (Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa)

Briccorosa Rouchet Monferrato Rosso Ruche 2014

A bright, fun + festive wine from one of Piemonte’s unicorn varieties, made in an unexpectedly elegant style. Smells like cinnamon + berries. Tastes like Nebbiolo on spring break. Drinks like silk. — 5 years ago

Tettineive Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

Birthday dinner wine. Clay pot, dried cranberry, a little balsamic. Jared cooked ribeye, sautéed mushrooms, risotto and salad. Great pairing! Knocked it out of the park! — 7 months ago

Archetipo Colli Tortonesi Terre di Libarna Timorasso 2021

My first Timorasso. At first a bit dainty & shy on the nose; crushed nectar pits, white flowers, some white peach & artichoke hearts. On palate very textured, like Huet Chenin, but in a parallel universe. Minerally & reserved, this feels like it could go decades more- which is my understanding it can. The aroma notes are echoed on palate, with additional quince & pale fig notes, with a very slight off dry character (overall quite dry). For about 26$ a steal— I guess it’s a hard sell, this Timarosso.. This can either run as a food wine or not, & it’s delicious. — 7 months ago

@Ceccherini Cristiano Cec, see my 2 notes on the Massa Timorasso - 2 vintages how he grubbed out his Cortese vines and planted Timorasso, essentially saving the latter and reviving the planting of the grape.

@Bob McDonald in that case agree on that, when the cortese is in the wrong area take it off, but when you mention the Docg Gavi i don't think there is point. Plus who knows if the timorasso might grow well there...perhaps it could be a good recommendation 😅😅.

Scarpa (Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa)

Le Coste di Monforte Barolo Nebbiolo

Very much enjoyed but something held it back from loving. I think it lacked a little richness to be really a top notch wine. That being said had a mild sweetness and bite and will definitely get again. — 5 years ago
