Blue Poles

Blue Eyed Boy Shiraz 2017

Shay A

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds.

For being a Mollydooker, I was surprised at how nimble this was. Sure, it was a hedonistic and rich style, but it didn’t seem too hot or flabby. Lots of cocoa powder, freshly dipped chocolate covered black cherries, savory cherry tobacco leaves and finished with a note of Andes mint. I called this Syrah with American oak. Thanks

Rosemount Estate

Mountain Blue Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon

On opening seemed I’d left it too long but an hour in the decanter did the trick opened up to a delightful wine although certainly with tertiary prune and leather influences. Sweet dusty tannin shining through the palate with some exotic spice to round it all out. Very happy! 🍷😀 — 20 days ago

Tanzen Dame Blue Cap Trocken Edelzwicker Riesling 2016

If you can’t handle a touch of brett, avoid this. But for those who’s a wild sour ale, trapped in a bottle of Riesling-heavy Edelzwicker. The nose is pure, pretty, floral Riesling, and the sour/spicy thing kicks in on the palate in a masterful and balanced way that gives the impression of being a studied, deliberate choice in the cellar. The brett carries through into the long, savory finish in a thirst-quenching manner (again, much like sour ale). This wine demands all your attention, so don’t pull it out for casual quaffing, chill it too hard or serve it in anything less than great glassware. Another singular and challenging wine from the most interesting growers in the FLX. — a month ago

Chardonnay 2017

Bright minerality with a nose of lemon curd and butterscotch. A rich, fuller bodied 🇨🇦 Chardonnay with complex flavours of citrus and tropical fruits. Drinks like a more expensive French Chablis. Outstanding value at $22. Worth cellaring A couple of bottles for 4-6 years. — 4 days ago

Best Barrels Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

I picked some of the grapes in this bottle. It was better than I thought it would be but was still overoaked. As I said as we were driving brix samples then, it probably should have been picked earlier. This site has potential — a month ago
