Parusso

Barolo Nebbiolo 2010

Delectable: The producer is Armando Parusso. Light to mid crimson in colour. Unusually light for a Barolo. A nose of red fruits and surprisingly bruised strawberries. The palate showing savoury earthy notes with that strawberry note - a touch of tar. Finishing with very silky tannins - silkier than I expected from a 15 year old Barolo. This usually happens at 20 plus years in my experience. A lovely Barolo I bought in Alba at an excellent wine shop called Grande Vini. There is a Parusso Barolo in the 1001 wines book but it is from Bussia, unlike this Cuvée. A different sort of Barolo with that bruised strawberry character but thoroughly enjoyable. If you have any in the cellar you could enjoy over the next few years. — a year ago

@Andrew Cullimore Absolutely Andrew. I bought some bottles which I hadn’t seen in Australia or were significantly cheaper than in Australia.

Santa Rosalia Nebbiolo d'Alba 2016

Lovely wine paired with rigatoni alla vodka and stuffed artichokes. Cherries and plum and not overly dry. Look forward to drinking this again. — 6 years ago

Brezza Barolo Nebbiolo 2015

Quite fruity for a Barolo, with dark fruit dominant. Very nice structure with juicy, ripe tannins, nice balance, a sharp edge adds complexity. Already drinkable. — 7 years ago

Brunello Di Montalcino 2013

From half bottle. Aromas of leather loam and a little plum but essentially very savoury with fine sandy tannins. Oak is there but not overbearing. Loved the wine and a great accompaniment to Pork Belly. Met the owner and chef Tony Percuoco. A great restaurant and a regular for us when visiting Brisbane. His 2 brothers run the equally good Fellinis on the Gold Coast and Armando is the chef and owner of Buon Ricordo one of Sydney’s best Italian restaurants. All 3 highly recommended. — 7 years ago

Vigna Giaia Nervo Riserva Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2010

This 2010 will stand out as a standard bearer. Upon opening the aromas were gorgeous but the acidity overwhelming, within a few minutes it became candied spiced oranges on the nose with powdered cocoa over orange peel with clove and nutmeg in the mid palate. So good I never wanted it to end. — 8 years ago

Barbera d'Alba Superiore 2020

2020 vintage. Apparently, Brezza Giacomo e Figli is a certified organic producer in Barolo, known for crafting high-quality Barbera d'Alba Superiore. This was a well-structured Barbera I found best decanted for 30 minutes. Black fruit, herbs and white pepper on the nose. Medium body with notes of blackberry, tart cherry. and dried herbs and a play between moderate acidity and tannin with a exceptional medium length finish. This was perfect with pasta puttanesca and tuna and white bean salad. — 5 months ago

It’s still lives! So surprised that this was still kicking, with a nice acidity and smoky meatiness on the palate, with hints of marinated cherry (in like, brandy), tar, and the color of Port! The nose still notes of fruit even, with plum, smoke, spice, and Tiva says, “an old movie theatre, or magician’s room”. After a couple hours, the ripe red fruits were exploding out of the glass still, with velvet and even florals hinted on the acidic palate. The meaty, iron flavors lingerrrr. — 3 years ago

Cerretta Barolo Nebbiolo 2005

I originally opened a 2010 Brezza but that was so horribly corked I reached for this in hopes to make up for it...and boy did it ever. This came singing right out of the gate. Cherries, black berries, tar, roses, earth...just about everything a Barolo lover could want. Tannins are still firm but they have softened enough to not be a distraction. This is at a very lovely place right now. Drink now or through 2025+. — 7 years ago
