A blend of Corvina Veronese 45%, Corvinone 45%, Rondinella 5% & Oseleta 5%, deep Ruby with aromas of dried dark fruits, spice and herb, about 120 days of appassimento. On the palate flavors of ripe cherry and raspberry with notes of fig, cacao, flint and mineral tones. Soft smooth tannins well balanced with acidity on a long spicy finish. Raisiny and grape-y nose offers tart and powdered candy notes, white mushroom, schist, light pepper and tea. Dry open of grape-y tartness, bing cherry and lavender petal. Mouth-coating with cranberry-blackberry and black currant, bitters and dates. Great priced ripasso.

A good wine but not excellent. The texture is just too soft. Needs a stronger acid backbone. Otherwise, the fruit flavors are nicely accented with cut flowers on the nose, and slightly spiced on the palate. — 7 years ago

A wonderfully aromatic, classically shaped Barolo, dominated by fresh roses, spice, early-season cherry, sour cherry and ripe mid-season cherry, with crunchy red apple skin, loam, chestnut, desiccated leaves and a cool touch of menthol emerging with air. The fruit becomes progressively purer, more concentrated and more precisely defined, while remaining clean and remarkably fresh. The palate is juicy, dense and velvety, driven by a terrific core of red fruit, vibrant acidity and firm slate-like tannins that continue to build. Not enormously complex, but exceptionally well made, beautifully balanced and intensely satisfying, with an amazingly long finish. An absolutely terrific wine and an absurd value. — 8 days ago

As it opens some lovely herbal notes.

Palate is clean. Tight. Closed.
As it opens tight cherry. Gorgeous.

Much better on day 2. delicious licorice. Fresh cherry fruit. Nose is blasting. Hand crushed mid season cherries. Spice. Roses. Some chocolate on the finish.

Either wait 5 years or decant 5 hours.

Sept 28, 2019. J2’s 5th bonus year celebration. TW Concierge offering April 2017. Purchased this and the Amarone. This is s solid Ripasso. Tart cherries, of course but not overpowering. Smooth, no pepper, hint of chocolate. 70% Corvina, 30% Rondinella. I believe Villa Cavarena is an Allegrini family label, from their Co-op? Definitely Allegrini quality and for <$20/bottle, what’s not to like??? — 7 years ago
