Alamos Malbec

Isenhower Cellars

Á Bloc Malbec 2015

Dense purple red, highly extracted pigment, some sediment in suspension. Butter, purple fruit and flowers in nose, blackberry, thyme, sage, slight cigar box. Velvety blackberry texture and flavor in mouth, slightly bitter and alcoholic on finish initially. After 30 minutes, chewy tar finish emerges with moderate astringency and a touch of menthol. A serious robust wine, but that Washington State fruit flavors and herbal nose sneak through. 106 cases produced — a day ago

Lujan de Cuyo Malbec 2015

Baked cherries with subtle pepper and spice on the nose. Very nicely balanced on the palate. Might almost think it’s a California Zinfandel. Will get more as soon as possible. Great deal for $35. Loved it. — 4 days ago

Wendouree Malbec 1991

Magnum
I've always wanted to taste an old malbec from them
Still embarrassingly young and fresh
Kaleidoscopic nose
Hard to describe mouthful
We start with eucalyptus, then berries of any kind, from raspberry to blueberries or blackcurrant
Leather, cinnamon, star anise, soya, graphite, gunpowder, coriander, curry
Neverending
Intensity, vibrancy and length
I honestly am so bloody curious to see this in decades
I keep thinking of Bordeaux when I drink Wendouree maybe cause they freeze the time
It starts the hunt for more

Astica Cuyo Malbec 2017

An easy and affordable go to for a weeknight bottle. Fruity, pretty smooth, deeper than a Pinot but not dry or heavy. — 7 days ago

Bodega Vina 1924 De Angeles

Lujan de Cuyo Gran Malbec 2011

100% Malbec from old vines, single vineyard, aged 30% in new French oak for about 14 months, deep Ruby, aromas of blue and red fruits with floral spice. On the palate, plum, blackberry and raspberry flavors with notes of licorice, vanilla and toast. Medium+ finish, fine tannins ending with a spicy fruit character. — 4 days ago

Kettle Valley

Malbec 2011

To be honest, the Malbec seems to be the least consistent of Kettle Valley's expressions. I find the variation wild between vintages of this stuff. The 2011 eight years after vintage has some graphite going on with perhaps some under-ripeness of fruit making an appearance, but the brambly blackberry fruit quickly gives way to a wave of blueberry here that works ok with the heavy dose of wood. It's weird to say, but would you say this is missing a tar note? — 2 days ago

Straight forward well done Malbec from a consistent knowledgeable institution, that really hasn't been around for that long. Will buy this again & seek other varietals from this producer. Sante'! — 2 months ago
