1996 | Birthday weekend for my lovely wife.
Slight funk on the nose, but solid, dusty red fruits on the palate. Double decanted with notes at 5H. Complete notes on future bottles. 2006 acquisition with careful storage since.
Paired to USDA Prime Strip Steaks (baseball-cut), Allen Bros. Chicago.
I do enjoy the old, minimalist label showcasing the view of the winery in the hill. — 4 years ago
Still sporting the $12.99 sticker that this was many years ago. Just under top of shoulder fill. Cork was fantastic.
A few of the other early ‘80s wines I’ve opened from this same acquisition needed time to open up and blow off funk, but this was ready from the get go. At its age (and provenance), the wine is translucent ruby with bricking at the rim and shows classic Pauillac notes (graphite, leather, cassis) with tart red fruits, herbs and some pipe tobacco. Still retaining acidity and a decent amount of tannin at the finish. A unique high-toned/mint note came around aromatically ever so often and would fade.
Followed out of bottle during the evening and it stayed consistent. — a year ago
The 21 estate cab. Beautiful. Savoring the pre-acquisition vintages. — 2 years ago
Vineyard from the north area of the vulcano.
Last acquisition of Donnafugata in terms of time , but not in terms of importance.
A true mineral expression of a Sicilian wine
Intense, long, generous, mouthfilling.
Etna wines are getting every year more serious. — 2 years ago
This was a lucky acquisition in 2008. Two states, five cities and seven homes later, survived. I'm so happy and relieved that it kept as well as it did! A truly amazing wine that lives up to its reputation! Sublime Velvet. — 2 years ago
Nose has crushed pear, sliced yellow apple, vanilla candy, dried lemon peel, tangerine pith, (moist) granulated white sugar and lemon oil.
Palate has mashed pear, lemon zest, lemon flesh, under-ripe white peach, tangerine essence and (faint) wet slate.
Fantastic balance of (medium) acidity with great length to the finish. Just a fantastic bottle with great cellaring before our acquisition within the past couple years.
I suggest not passing by any version of a Bernard-Bonin wine whenever you see one, always great, better with age. 2013/2014 white Burgundy's are just drinking so perfect right now. Drink this 2022-2028.
Decanted 2H, continuing development. — 4 years ago

A fab Cabernet from Napa with excellent QPR. Old school 12.8% ABV lets the fruit come through. First time with this producer, I can see why gaining a following with CT score at 93. BD17 acquisition. I know, it’s a 2023 but I wanted to try it fresh, will lay down my other bottled for prob another 3-5 years. — 2 months ago
