Alta Orsa Hillside Cuvée Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2018

Topel Winery Alta Orsa Hillside Cuvee 2018, Mendocino County, California

Dark ruby in color, almost Inky, with a short reddish rim.

On the nose blueberries, plums, cooked cherries, cedar, light vanilla, dark chocolates, coffee, cloves, black pepper, earth, pencil lead and light vegetables.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Very dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, wood, spices, black tea, peppercorn, earth, green vegetables, bitter herbs and tobacco leaf.

Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very nice red blend from Mendocino County. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel.

An Interesting wine that feels more like a French Bordeaux. Tangy with nice balance between the fruits and the earth notes. A good everyday wine.

Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up and shows the tannins (1 hour).

Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Good by itself and better with food. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses. Paired very nicely with the wild mushroom Brie cheese.

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. Grapes are grown at 1,200 feet of elevation. A small production of only 5 barrels.

14.3% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

$32.

Anderson Valley Dry Muscat Blanc 2019

Not a detailed assessment: pale yellow, excellent clarity, notes of flowers and perfume in nose, mercifully dry in mouth with good acid and flavors of grapefruit rind and citrus fruit. Always a stellar choice — 22 days ago

Day 3 and this has just extended and expanded its wings. As it has evolved over the weekend, notes of butterscotch and raw cane sugar emerge. Such a wonderful expression of the valley, which many can afford to indulge.

Rosewood Vineyards Old Vine Petite Sirah 2018

Outstanding. Saw it at the store today and had to pick up after the break up. Sad to lose this winery. Maybe my favorite petite Syrah ever? I get beef jerky, dark plums, blood sausage, herbs, dried cherries, dried figs. Wonderful with pizza. — 5 days ago

Wild berries in the forest. Tart, great acidity, but there’s a nice hint of dark zin plum jam and earth that bring it together. This may rival broc for favorite zin! Look forward to getting more. — 13 days ago

Always a nice bubbly! Oxidative in style, which I do not mind. Yeasty rolls, ripe pears, baked and fresh apples..medium acidity..a little extra richness than previous bottles. — 2 days ago

I really like this for so many reasons. #1 the bottle/jug. #2 the oldskool retro label #3 it’s a dry white #zinfandel #4 it has so much typicity of Zin on the nose and on the palate I find it somewhere between a #rosé and a light red. — 8 days ago

Fun, had me stoked for a Rubired review (same jug bottling), but down with White Zin too.
