Ontogeny Oakville Red Wine 2016

Time for a good #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a great one from Napa Valley.

Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Showing black fruits with cedar, earth, vanilla, licorice, tobacco, coke, chocolates, dark coffee, leather, spices and peppercorn.

Full bodied and smooth with medium acidity. Dry on the palate with nice balance and mouthfeel.

This is a delicious Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Complex and opulent, and might be too much for some.

Dark, rich and handsome. Very tasty now, although still young. Will be nice to revisit it in 10 years.

Robert Parker 95 points. Thank you Scott for sharing.

Good by itself or with food, like a big piece of steak.

A blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cabernet Franc, 15% Petit Verdot and 4% Merlot.

15.2% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

$120.

The Diddler Merkin Vineyards White Blend 2017

70/30 blend of Malavasia Bianca and Albariño from my home state of Arizona. Grapes from Willcox, vinted in Jerome, bottled in Camp Verde. That’s a lot of trucking, folks. Yellow-green, excellent clarity, clean nose. Floral, honeycomb and citrus flavor, almost tart, almost dry, apricot-citrus finish with some skin astringency. 13.2% alc/vol suggests early harvesting. Exceeded my expectations. Present from my brother who had similar feelings about the wine, saying “You’ve got to try this”. Not great, but much better than you’d think — 5 days ago

Two Creeks Vineyards Pinot Noir 2017

Just had to try another bottle!!Ruby with red fruit aromas and spicy herb floral notes, aged for 10 months in 40% new French oak. On the palate fresh black raspberry and cherry flavors with herb tea and earthy tones. Firm fine tannins, balanced acidity, nice mouthfeel, long finish ending with earthy mineral herb character. Nice! Paired well with a spicy seared sushi grade tuna with spicy peanut dressed sesame soy sauce. Wow!! — 9 days ago

Reserve Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Nice SB. Wanted a little more crispness to it but still really nice. Lots of tropical fruit when I first opened the bottle. Some sweetness to it, some slight lychee on the back end. No cat pee nose 😊 — 5 days ago

Tin Box Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

I was very curious to try this 2018 Bevan Dr. Crane vineyard Cabernet, so I opened it and poured into the decanter as soon as the FedEx guy delivered it. It’s delicious and very different for a Bevan Cabernet. It has lots of tobacco leaf and herbs on the nose with the fruit playing a background role at the moment. For such a young wine, the palate has the caressing texture of pure cashmere. It’s really an outstanding wine. — 3 days ago

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

I had somehow overlooked this 14 at the back of the cellar! Drinking amazingly well. Tannins have beautifully integrated. Deep concentration without heft. A great job yet again @Mike Smith — a day ago

The Fidelio Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Tropical fruits dominate, but I get peach notes as well. A beautiful, well made wine and incredibly consistent. Wish I could cellar these longer, but they go fast. — a day ago

Family Reserve Bourbon Barrel Aged Cabernet Sauvignon

Color of light purple and ruby. Beautiful tears. Clear. Nose of black cherry jam, a bit strawberry, fragrant aldehyde, oak, powerful alcohol yet not stingy, spices, and more cedar or woody note. Nose is good. Taste of definitely some spicy bourbon barrel note, ample acidity, really soft tannins, tobacco leaves, peppery and zesty, dark chocolate, ripe grapes sweetness. Taste is chewy and nice. Aftertaste is medium long with a touch of bitterness, yet not bad at all. Nice one. — 13 days ago
