Sauvignon Gris

Dunn Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1982

Redfruit aromas and flavors, this is still hopelessly young, though the tannins have softened a bit and it seems to be inching towards maturity, impeccable balance and great depth of flavors, super long, lingering finish, just an absolutely fantastic, old school California mountain Cabernet. I have always believed this to be the best Dunn Howell Mountain ever made (I’ve tasted 1981-1992, with a distinct style change towards riper and higher ABV starting around 1992, after which I stopped buying the wine). $15 full retail when I bought it in late 1984. — 9 days ago

Used to joke about these Dunn HM wines being 40 year wines back in my twenties...guess I wasn't too far off.

@vinokeeno , I used to say the same thing, and it’s still not really mature. Fortunately I was still in my late 20s when I purchased it.

Heitz Cellar

Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Ok this is what I’m talking about. The famous Martha’s eucalyptus is just showing itself. This bottling still has so much life ahead with really fine texture and tannins. A treat. — 5 days ago

Smooth, dry, medium body, strong tannins, light oak, solid when paired with red sauce and meat. — 8 days ago

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Not sure if this qualifies for "Aged Wine Tuesday". Tastes of expresso, dark chocolate, plums, brambly dark fruits, vanilla, black licorice on midpalate, pencil lead, black strap molasses, sassafras tea, tannins nicely integrated. — 3 days ago

Corison

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Decant for sediment and pour (lots of chunky/fine sediment). A remarkable murky garnet with bricking. On the nose: Intoxicating notes of stewed dark fruit, green bell pepper, sweet vanilla, menthol, worn leather, dried herbs. Taste: soft, smooth, delicate, balanced wine with prune, cedar, graphite, and a sweet spice tobacco medium plus finish. YUM!!! Still holding its own and fun to drink and discuss tonight. Cheers. — 12 days ago

Frank Family Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Verdot and 1% Merlot, deep Ruby with aromas of Napa Valley classic Cabernet Sauvignon's pronounced aromas of black cherry, cassis, and vanilla hits your glass. Flavors of ripe blackberry, baked black fruit, strawberry, and a touch of espresso, balanced acidity. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, cedar and a touch of herb mint. Will benefit from some short aging. — 20 days ago

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Once again the ‘16s are drinking really nice now. Ripe black fruit on the nose. Getting blackberries, black cherries, and even some blueberry on the finish. Tannins really soft and delicate now. All coming together really nice at this point. — 7 days ago

Silver Oak

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

This wine is drinking great. Silver Oak can be pretty tannic, especially the Alexander Valley. 10 years in, that has mellowed and you’re getting some nice fruit and secondary flavors. Chloe V-Day gift. — 4 days ago

The SO Alexanders all need a mandatory, 10 year cooling-off period. After a decade, the ridiculous oak has faded and you're left with an integrated Cabernet that I'd blind taste against anything...ANYTHING from California or Bordeaux. Might not come in first but it will be accounted for. Before that mandatory 10-spot, it's coming in last every single time. Just sayin.'

Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2022

I am never displeased with this wine, consistently available, and vintages show some variations from year to year. A little relaxed on the gooseberries, I love that zing! Finish presents with some creaminess which is different! — 11 days ago
