Qupé

Bien Nacido Hillside Estate Syrah 2011

From magnum. 1st day was all about high toned red fruit, herb, secondary characteristics. Now the plum and berry are emerging on day 2 and I’m enjoying it much more. Has more life in it. 13% alcohol. Vinous 92. — a day ago

Qupé and Bob opened up the possibilities and potentialities of red Rhônes in California back in the day. Any day-or night with an older Qupé Syrah (or other varietal) is a good one.

Beckmen Vineyards

Purisima Mountain Vineyard Syrah 2018

This was a big wine. Deep, dark, cooked black and blue fruit, smoke, ash, very subtle meatiness, and no shortage of oak. Long, spicy, explosive finish. Substantial, chewy tannins that would benefit from more time in the bottle... would have been a bit much without the steaks. Nice bottle though. — 19 days ago

Tensley

Turner Vineyard Syrah 2010

Lovely blue-fruited Syrah from a cooler year, plenty of intensity, nicely balanced, lingering finish, solid Central Coast Syrah!! — 5 days ago

Santa Barbara County Syrah 2016

This is #Syrah on high mode. Like a Syrah IPA. Danky, plummy, ripey jammy and yet more balanced and unique than his Tensley vineyard version (which is pure residual sugar) if you ask me. I like Joey’s wines because they are brass balls. No excuses. — 12 days ago

Ridge Vineyards

Monte Bello Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2006

From a Ridge mini vertical at a friend’s house. 08, 07, 06. This 06 is by far the most evolved. Nose is sweet with ripe, almost prune-tinged fruit. I hesitate to say prune because it has a bad connotation but this is really good. And at its peak. Lots of sweet, old library notes. Still a lot of tannin, but the flavors are revolved so don’t wait for more tannin to drop. A real pleasure-giver. — 4 days ago

Really enjoy the Riesling from this vineyard, Fruity and round. Think this is my favorite Riesling in CA.

Santa Barbara County Pinot Grigio 2014

This wine probably wasn’t meant to age, but since it was made well with high acidity, it’s aging marvelously like some of my favorite Pinot Gris from Alsace. #sbcounty #sbcountywines #santabarbaracounty #santabarbara #pinotgrigio — 14 days ago

Arnot-Roberts

Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay 2017

Pale gold. Lemon, minerals, high acidity and bitterness level. Crisp, sinewy wine. Apple skin, green melon, paraffin, freshly cut green herbs. Many users say they find this Chablis-esque, and I can see that.

After a day in the fridge this is slightly richer and less restrained. Very nice wine.. 👍🏻
