Château Haut-Brion

Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

I have favoured Haut-Brion in blind tastings before, but not this time. This is not the most praised vintage by any means but still. Haut-Brion still comes with some expectations. It’s solid and well made, but fairly closed. There are of course signs of class and aristocracy shining through but too underwhelming at this occasion. — 3 days ago

Bodegas y Viñedos Vega Sicilia

Unico Ribera del Duero Tempranillo Blend 2007

1.5 hour decant(lots of chunky/fine sediment). A stunning dark murky magenta color. On the nose: beautiful nose with perfumed red fruit, licorice, plum, cloves, little roasted meat, oak. Taste: lighter weight from a cold not great vintage. Nevertheless it is a velvety, bold, elegant wine with dark cherry, dark chocolate, tobacco, balsamic, baking spice, earth, dried herbs and a nice medium plus finish. YUM! Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2013

Some specials on today at the Chelsea lounge at JFK. Thought I’d ask and look what we got. It doesn’t have as much of the typical Dom taste for me and it is still very very young, definitely still a baby. Great nose and packs a lot of citrusy flavors - they will certainly mellow over the years. Not a bad rendition, not quite hitting the super high marks with me right now, but very pleasant early p.m. bubbly on this holiday — 5 days ago

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Blend of 79% Cabernet, 14% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, deep Ruby with rich fruit aromas. On the palate flavors of blackberry and currants, with notes of licorice, tobacco, some floral and spicy oak. Fine tannins, long finish, ending with fruit, oak and spice. Nice but needs more bottle age, should last another 10 years. Nice! — 6 days ago

Not quite up to other years of d’Yquem but still lovely of course. Lacking some acid on the finish. Overall less density and length than I was hoping. But the palate entry and overall aromatics are still incredible. — 10 days ago

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2020

Blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot that spent 20 months all in new French oak, deep Ruby with aromas of berry fruits, floral, tobacco and flinty notes. On the palate flavors of rich berry fruits and black currants with cacao and tobacco spice, on a well integrated frame. Fine soft fluffy tannins, long finish ending with fruit, earthy spice and tobacco cedar mineral character. Impressive! A wow factor wine! Will last for several decades! — 4 days ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

A murky purple magenta color, but still appears young. Very aromatic with beautiful notes of blackberry, perfume followed by sandalwood, wet rich soil, pencil lead and sweet oak. Tastes young with tannins still present leaving many years for aging. Primary flavors of blackberry cedar and bitter sweet chocolate with secondary notes of cassis, new leather, pepper, dried herbs, and gravel giving it a long dry finish. Should pair with our Neapolitan marinara pizza and pasta dinner tonight. Looking forward to see what another several years will add to its flavor profile. — 14 days ago
