Kirchspiel Riesling GG 2019

There was a sense of disappointment with each waft of petrol aroma from the glass. It just shouldn’t be there in a Riesling this young, and especially in one from KP. Clearly the journey taken by this bottle hasn’t been the kindest on its condition. Nevertheless, the DNA of KP’s Kirchspiel still shone through - the regal elegance, palpable minerality, and youthful tannic tartness. Discounting the infuriating petrol note, it was all ripe citrus fruits, herbs, chalk, salt, chalk, salt, chalk and more salt. It was just so mineral, and even more so on day two! I do like it, but I can’t help but feel robbed of the full enjoyment of this wine due to the petrol notes (doubly so when you consider how long I’ve craved for KP’s wines - nearly a year since my last fix). Onwards to a better bottle! — 3 days ago

Brunnenhäuschen Großes Gewächs Riesling 2015

A very good Grosses Gewachs from Wittmann. Lovely aromatics of white flowers, under ripe nectarine and slatey minerals. The palate was light to medium weight but with with great length and precision. Stone fruit notes. Medium plus acidity which makes me think this has a number of years left. Finishes dry at 13% ABV but was expecting a more fulsome peachy palate. Not quite there for $133 AUD per bottle. More fulsome the following day. — 17 days ago

Kirchenstück Riesling 2018

Could smell this out of the bottle directly after popping the cork! Lemon, petrol, smoke and crushed stones. Palatte was all about minerality for me with light tones of ripe melon. Salty finish with perfectly balanced acidity. Cracking wine — 17 days ago

Ölberg Riesling 2019

This GG VDP from Reinhessen is yellow-greenish in color; and has a nose of fudge, beeswax, honey, lime, grape fruit, petrol and wet underbrush - marvelous -; and a taste fueled by high acids and tart tropical fruits, lean and smooth structure and a perceived sweetness and long finish. Wish I had more but were sold out. — 4 days ago

This is drinking so well now. Nose is stunning and floral. Spices galore. Amazing cherries and Xmas spice. Gingerbread. Lovely limestone background. Beautiful mid season cherries. Super sweet cherry fruit and velvety tannins. So tangy and concentrated. Amazingly pure. Before 2018/2019 this was the benchmark Thorle Pinot and nice to see it’s drinking so well. Terrific sweetness and the tannins are so good and come one more with air. Sweet, silky and velvety. — 13 days ago

@Lyle Fass You said this Thorle is drinking well now, but what do you expect for a drinking window?

@Brent Young in 15/14/13 holle has maybe a 10 year window. In 16/17 maybe 12-14, in 18/19 I think 15-18 year window. they keep getting better and more age worthy.

-RR- Rheinhessen Riesling 2017

A not quite dry riesling from Keller. After 5 years this is starting to take on some complexity and has a lovely honey colour. I'm not the biggest fan of kabinett style of riesling but in 5-10 years i think this will be very impressive. — 3 days ago

Sauvignon Blanc trocken 2018

Pale lemon with aromas of stone, tropical fruits with citrus and floral mineral notes. On the palate fresh fruit flavors of grapefruit, pineapple and melon with lemon citrus wrapped in lively acidity, medium length ending with fruit and lemon citrus texture. — 8 days ago
