Rhône Syrah

Paul Jaboulet Aîné

La Chapelle Hermitage Syrah 1999

Tart, dried blackberry fruit leather, earthy breeze smell on the nose (I don’t know what that means either, but that’s the first words to come to mind). Blackberry bramble, silk, and pepper. Some iron, but it’s soften over the years. This is a Belgian Sheepdog wine. Dark, bold, elegant, eager to please any Syrah fan. I want to go for a long hike through the woods, picking wild blackberries with this dog. Then we go home and share leg of lamb, rub the dogs silky ears, and drink this (just me. Don’t give alcohol to dogs). — 11 days ago

Wow, this was showing so much dark fruit, spice & mineral rich & open that everyone felt was showing better than the Cathleen — 18 days ago

La Turque Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2017

Very powerful nose and very long finish with peppery aftertaste. This will evolve beautifully but drinks great now. Very balanced despite maximum extraction. — a day ago

Great to hear! I have been sitting on several slightly older vintages and may need to cowboy up and try a few.

La Landonne Côte-Rotie Syrah 2008

Decanted. Nice spice box and fruit. Super smooth. Thyme, wild cherry, Mira bell plum. Cinnamon bark (savory) and slight vanilla bean. Really nice tannins — 15 days ago

Brune et Blonde de Guigal Côte-Rotie Syrah 2016

Awesome wine. Mother’s day favorite. Overall very balanced with dark fruit, spice, smoke, and licorice. Long finish. Could have it anytime. Paired with rack of lamb. Cheers. — 14 days ago
