Rhône Syrah

Thierry Allemand

Chaillot Cornas Syrah 2020

Already so good! Chaillot is much easier to drink young than the more concentrated and rich Reynard. 2020 Chaillot is gorgeous, perfumed and mineral with layered, vibrant fruit and liquid rock minerality. Beautiful wine and perfect with lamb ribs frites for lunch! — 3 days ago

Very good, but not the best ‘97 Chapelle bottle I’ve had. — 2 days ago

Château d'Ampuis Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2003

Nose was closed for the first 90 mins. Now giving way to gentle tobacco and dark cherry A touch dry on the front of the palate but rounds out into a juicy and long finish. Very nice. — 4 days ago

Cornas Reynard (R) Syrah 2015

En Magnum. A rare treat. Ethereal body and elevated mid-palate. Feminine, if that’s possible. Wow. — 23 days ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1998

When Jamet with age is on it’s really on. ‘98 is showing beautifully tonight, fully open and giving wafting seductive and perfumed aromatics of ripe blackberry fruit, smoked meats, camphor and exotic spices with an elegant, satiny palate with melting tannins and a stunningly long finale. Beautiful wine, and for my tastes at its peak. — 10 days ago

Château de Saint-Cosme

Côtes du Rhône Syrah 2022

Nice all around wine, deep dark purplish red in color. Nose is a little tight, but the flavor is all there. Dark fruit with a little spice and dry finish. Holds up well to grilled and spicy foods. — 11 hours ago

Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Syrah 2008

Excellent 08. Chave and Allemand really nailed the difficult vintage in Northern Rhône, and 2008 Hermitage is showing beautifully tonight, fresh, elegant and detailed with aromas of juicy red berry fruit, bacon, roasted herbs and smoky minerals. While not an exceptionally deep and concentrated rendition in 2008, it’s really a considerable success, and it’s fully open, giving and ready to drink. — 25 days ago

L'Hermitage Syrah 1999

Dark and pure. Gnarly fruit with great intensity. Savory and slightly wild but very sophisticated. Intense, with a long life ahead. — 12 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2011

Love these wines. Rare to find with some age! 2011 is superb tonight, complexly aromatic wafting layers of dark fruit, olive tapenade, camphor, bacon fat and black truffle. The palate shows excellent density and concentration with balanced acids, melting tannins and a stunningly long finish. Beautiful wine. — 16 days ago

Cornas Syrah

Imprecise, rustic and truly arteasanal. Despite this I have the feeling it will improve a lot with time. Perfect wine for food pairing. 93-93+ — 14 days ago
