Elevage Stags Leap District Merlot Blend 2019

Blend of about 39% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Petit Verdot with the rest Cabernet Franc, aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak, deep Ruby, purple edges with aromas of dark red fruits, oak and sweet spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum and currants with cacao and herb spice. Full dusty tannins, opens nicely, long finish ending with fruit, oak, vanilla spice and mineral character. Nice! Drinking well now, will still age. — a month ago

The Leap Estate Grown Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2020

My favorite of the Stags’ Leap porch tasting. Although no petite sirah (which they are known for). Silky & complex.

Napa Valley Merlot 2012

2012 drunk in 2024. Impressed with how well this stood up. Mature fruit, and smooth, but very present tannins. Extra points for exceeding expectations. — 12 days ago

Black Label Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Little comparative tasting between the 17’ and 12’ vintages:
2017- deep ruby color. Aromas of blackberry, raspberry, flint and cedar. Youthful wine, loads of black fruit on the palate, spice and vanilla notes.
2012- deep ruby with garnet rim. Aromas of blackberry and blueberry. Black currant and leather and oak finish. Solid.

Hands of Time Napa Valley Red Wine 2015

Quite deep ruby , with thin ruby garnet rim. Quite rich and decadent on the nose , plum , ripe cassis , oak , blackberry , coffee and dark chocolate . On the palate again rich and quite sweet , with dark plum , cassis , blackberry and coffee hints . There are some spice notes and chocolate richness on the medium length finish . The alcohol is a little noticeable, just balanced acidity and quite fine , polished tannins . Unapologetically juicy and quite rich , if lacking a little complexity. Though this will age ok , I would prefer to drink over the next 5 -7 years . — a month ago
