Celebrating another trip around the sun. This Piper Rare is medium straw in colour. Masses of ultra fine bubbles ( fine persistent mousse). Complex toasty aromas with a touch of gun smoke and flinty notes. On the palate Complex, Intense and Refreshing all at once. Chalky minerality with a saline note. Yellow fruits with creamy notes starting to take over the acid at 18 years. A blend of 70% Chardonnay and 30% Pinot Noir. An outstanding Champagne from a great year where the contents more than lives up to the bling of the packaging. Tempted to make a statement and give it 98 points. — 13 days ago
Cold November date night at home...2 inch med-rare filets, fully dressed bakers, and roast butternut....Stephan’s MGS is a brut at 15.8–but Paso blends hide the ABV with some age. Beautiful full purple with no noticeable jamminess.. med-weight, a touch of pencil, leather, tobacco oak but lovely dark, black fruit/stem fruit. Nice acid/fruit/tannin balance and a long warming finish. I’ve loved these wines and valued Stephan Assao since he walked into my retail workplace 25 years ago and tried to sell his wines. Perfect...no...but they taste so fucking good and I love them and their vision! — 17 days ago
2018 was a great find. Evocation of Madiran and Cahors wines, woth the presence of Tannat and Malbec grapes. Very ripe black fruits, spices and toasted notes. Nice balance. With one more year, 17 is more flexible, more homogeneous. Definitely a very good quality / price / pleasure ratio.
— 4 days ago
Rare and rather expensive, less than 4000 bottles made. No trace of wood. Just a wonderful Sangiovese, meaty, funky almost syrupy with tannins that make the back of your mouth dry and makes you thirsty for a next glass. Outstanding unfortunately rare and rather (very) expensive. — 13 days ago
Always love the earthy, woodsy, crushed berries, stems and all, bouquets. Always reminds me of being outside in a forest, cool air drifting through trees, the hope of a hidden stream through an unnamed bend in the path.
Deep and dark, rich and jammy. This is a rare treat like truffle pizza or watching a marathon of your favorite movie series (Rush Hour, Die Hard, Fast & The Furious, The Godfather, take your pick).
Cornucopia of fruits, but I really love the noir licorice and plum notes right at the end. Harmonize with spice and acidity and you’ve got a winner. Class and drinkability. — 15 days ago
Very rare one-off from Nate’s early years at SSH. He source the Syrah from Horton and crafted in the “feminine” style. At 10yrs old it is really special. The acid had waned a bit (say 85% from baseline), but the aromatics were very Pinot...Oregon meets Rhône :) this was our thanksgiving dinner wine and it was great with Charcuterie and then brown sugar-cured ham, sweet potatoes, cream spinach etc. delicious!! — 4 days ago
Nice rose style champagne! Not too sweet. Bubbly enough. Love it! — 14 hours ago

Our host sort of snuck this into the mix, without fan-fair, during an evening of very lovely wines. Apparently a VdT without a clear and obvious vintage statement. This was Exhibit A for proof that great wines don’t need a vintage date when the juice is this good. Beautiful ruby color with a dark core. Everything on the nose and the palate were in the right place and this immediately took me back to my experiences in Toscano where I drank “generic” jug wine at a random trattoria that was made by the family and I wanted for nothing. I desperately wish more wines like this were in my life. — a day ago
