According to Jeb, Along with the 2013, the 2016 Syrah Judge Family Vineyard is up with the greats, and I’d put this up against any Syrah in California or France. Offering incredible purity of fruit as well as notes of blueberries, blackberries, crushed flowers, gamey meats, and pepper, it’s more forward and opulent than the 2015 yet has fabulous depth and concentration, ripe tannins, and a finish that won’t quit. Hats off to Tynan for another insanely good Syrah that can be drunk today or cellared for 20 years or more. — 5 years ago

1 hour decant(lots of sediment). A wonderful inky dark purplish garnet color. On the nose: Intense notes of black and blue fruit, herbaceous, tobacco leaf, pencil shavings, forest floor. Taste: rich, velvety, harmonious mouthcoating wine with blackberry, currants, chocolate espresso, graphite, and a spiced-charred wood- dark cherry long finish. YUM!! — a month ago

It’s Australia 🇦🇺 Day today 26th Jan and this represents the commencement of wine development in Australia
Established by Dr Christopher Penfold in 1844 the vineyard was planted with cuttings brought from England
The family home was called the Grange.
Double decanted and given time to open. At 35 yrs young this will definitely develop further.
Single Magill Estate Shiraz was first created in 1983.
Dr Penfold originally planted vines to produce tonics to treat ailments like anemia and his wife developed table wines - the family eventually listed the business on the Exchange but lost control in 1970s
Must say Penfolds have been producing good ‘medicinal’ tonics for about 180 years 🤗 — a year ago

Cherry, raspberry, hints of cola and eucalyptus. Others said loamy soil, and now I have a better way to describe the earthiness of wines like this. Balanced and pairs beautifully with salmon and lentils. — 4 months ago
Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days; consistent throughout. The NV “L’Enclume de Velours” pours, a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium plus viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of cassis, brambles, Fig Newtons, bacon fat, purple flowers, tobacco, ancho chili, gentle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. Finishes long and savory. The texture is plush with tannins fine grained. You could drink now through most of next decade, but why wait? — a year ago

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. “Le Sucrier Velours” pours a deep ruby/purple with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart brambles, currants, fig, blueberries, tobacco, Serrano pepper, red and purple flowers, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, along with cool and warm spices. At this stage, the pyrazines seem to overshadow the rotundone. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This has aged very nicely and was lovely with burgers. Drink now through 2031. — 12 days ago
