Napa Valley Merlot

Harlan Estate

Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend

Still has plenty of life left. Light on its feet, cherry, red apple skin, & other red fruit dominant up front, with sage, menthol herbal notes and gravely earth on the finish. Listed 13.5%, could be even lower. Long finish. Merlot dominant this vintage and shows more of those hallmarks than a modern Harlan likely does. 4th leaf & never released? (allegedly). A softer, quieter wine than expected, lacking structure and more green than I would have thought, but still bright and enjoyable especially at this age — 11 days ago

Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Ok this is what I’m talking about. The famous Martha’s eucalyptus is just showing itself. This bottling still has so much life ahead with really fine texture and tannins. A treat. — 7 days ago

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

Not sure if this qualifies for "Aged Wine Tuesday". Tastes of expresso, dark chocolate, plums, brambly dark fruits, vanilla, black licorice on midpalate, pencil lead, black strap molasses, sassafras tea, tannins nicely integrated. — 5 days ago

Frank Family Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2021

Blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petite Verdot and 1% Merlot, deep Ruby with aromas of Napa Valley classic Cabernet Sauvignon's pronounced aromas of black cherry, cassis, and vanilla hits your glass. Flavors of ripe blackberry, baked black fruit, strawberry, and a touch of espresso, balanced acidity. Fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit, cedar and a touch of herb mint. Will benefit from some short aging. — 22 days ago

Corison

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Decant for sediment and pour (lots of chunky/fine sediment). A remarkable murky garnet with bricking. On the nose: Intoxicating notes of stewed dark fruit, green bell pepper, sweet vanilla, menthol, worn leather, dried herbs. Taste: soft, smooth, delicate, balanced wine with prune, cedar, graphite, and a sweet spice tobacco medium plus finish. YUM!!! Still holding its own and fun to drink and discuss tonight. Cheers. — 14 days ago

Papillon Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend

Starts off with cherries, plums and fig. Elegant, and after opening up for awhile a little brightness pokes through the dry tannins. Still very young to drink for this 2021 vintage. — 18 hours ago

Rib Cover follow up. Brighter, riper fruits with mid Chinese five spice than the La Dome de Montrose.

Still better in 3-5 years. It will hold there with a slow decline over another 5 years.

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Once again the ‘16s are drinking really nice now. Ripe black fruit on the nose. Getting blackberries, black cherries, and even some blueberry on the finish. Tannins really soft and delicate now. All coming together really nice at this point. — 9 days ago
