Napa Valley Merlot

Farella Vineyards

Coombsville Merlot 2017

First time trying this Merlot. Dark ruby. Slightly floral, dark red/black fruit, oak, vanilla. Really nicely structured, all the pieces fit really nicely. Could still use a few years to soften these dense chewy tannins, but I bet will be nice after time in the glass. Dark plum, blackberry cobbler, oak, spices. Really drinks very nicely. Nice thick mouthfeel with a good med-long finish. — a day ago

Winemaker Series Napa Valley Merlot 2016

Having a few years in the bottle makes a difference and this could go more. Dark fruit and dusty. Still a solid choice. — 3 days ago

Stagecoach Vineyard Merlot 2014

Good vintage! Still a big wine but the aerator helped. Earthy and well balanced. One of our favorites from this winery. — 11 days ago

Red Hen Vineyard Merlot 2013

Nice with just under 10 years of age. May have guessed something old world blind - perhaps the earthiness and the 13.7% abv. But the fruit is definitely there. Great pairing with pork chops from Kinderhook. — 5 days ago

Mayacamas Vineyards

Napa Valley Merlot 2019

Picture is of 2019 but we actually had 12, which is in a good place right now.

Mayacamas consistently makes one of my favorite Merlots.

Those intense mountain tannins (yes, even for Merlot!!!) have mellowed out. Such vibrant and pure fruit (dark cherry) balanced by dried herb/balsamic/meaty qualities that are just starting to develop along with a pleasant, fragrant cedar/resin /piney note.

So. Much. Acid.

Phoenix Vineyard Merlot 2019

Such a light bodied, fresh take on Merlot. More red currant and dark stone/graphite than plum jam. — 18 days ago

Napa Valley Merlot 2019

Red and black fruit. Nice structure with solid tannins, that opened up during the glass. Always enjoyed Duckhorn merlot and this 2019 was excellent as well. Nice dry, then long sweet finish. — 11 days ago
