Saint Joseph Syrah 2015

Lyle Fass

This is having a great moment. Smoke, olives, dark berry fruit, blueberry. Huge granite and deep mineral tones. Juicy, so fresh, deep and concentrated with outrageous purity and a long finish. Loads of medium to dark berry fruit and really really long finish and also serious structure. What a showing. This has got 15+ years ahead of it but is fun today. These wines will last a long time. — 6 days ago

Cavanos Saint Joseph Syrah 2016

Consumed directly after the 2015 Cornas “Le Village”. This was just a notch below that wine in my opinion. Right now, the structure is taking center stage and not allowing the fruit to deliver in the same way its cousin is giving. I also think the Cornas showed more complexity. Not that this isn’t endowed with fruit or complexity. A very lovely wine though. — a day ago

Gauthier Sylvain Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

A great vintage to drink now. Nose of olive, pepper, grilled meats, floral, granite and red berry fruit. Showing so well. Palate is easy like Sunday morning. Silky and ripe wirh outstanding balance and purity. Loads of berry fruit and ample freshness. So pure and sappy. Peppery finish and lovey granite and earth tones. No rush but this is in a great place now.

After air, more aromatic with blackberry, violets, olive and game, herbs, granite. So good. 9.2 to 9.3. Gains more elegance on the palate and really brings the fruit and refined tannin.

Domaine de Fauterie

Les Combaud St. Joseph Syrah 2018

Either mildly corked or brutally closed aromatically. :-(. So no rating. In the cat is alive universe decant for quite a while.

Nose. Occasionally some lilacs peek out from under the sheets.

Palate : Very elegant. Not super grippy. Crushed flowers. Super sweet raspberries. Black cherries. 9.3-9.5. A kiss of awesome elegant licorice.

Finish is a 9.5. So this would likely be very good. Stream of crushed flowers. Long.

ok. This is closed now. After an hour it opens and is great. Blind a more dense and dark fruited Cote rotie. Not rustic at all.

Fauterie rocks.

Bought from fass selections.

Time to drink these. Fruit here seems more muted compared to previous bottles. Savory, olive tapenade. Tasty. — 3 days ago

Saint-Joseph Syrah 2016

Love every vintage of Gonon- the best St. Joseph IMO. So expressive and giving seemingly at any age, as it was here with 2016. My second 2016 in the last few months. Signature inky purple. Deep and intense with great texture showing black fruits, liquid minerals, newly bloomed violets, black olive and hints of cacao. Wonderful concentration, energy and finesse. Stains the palate with a long and assertive finish. Excellent. — 8 days ago

Really nice and once it got some air it just took off. Perfect balance of acidity and roundness with a hint of honey. Seriously impossible to not like. — 8 days ago
