Freaking well made wine. You can drink it standing up. Don’t need to plan a meal around it, yet regal as well. It’s dumb to make comparisons but with such few words I suppose it makes sense: ferren, dumol, bevan? Loads of citrus, ultra pure, well defined, powerful. I guess I like this. Bought at the tasting room (they kind of hurried us along) but I could still get a sense of what these wines are. The chards and the pinots aren’t just fluff, they are really really good wines. Not so much into the sales model but for the price you’ll compete with stuff double the price — 2 years ago
Weekend catch-up. 2020 Ferren Silver Eagle Vineyard - I pulled this wine to share with friends. Winemaker Matt Courtney founded Ferren after a lengthy apprenticeship with Helen Curley at Marcassin Vineyard. This wine gives briny minerality, citrus, and everything else that’s wonderful about a well made Chardonnay.

Absolutely delicious. WON. Juicy with racy acidity. Hopefully this style will come to represent the future of pinot noir from the west Sonoma Coast. Last night tasted with Aubert UV-SL and Ferren Silver eagle also from 2017. Stylistically, the heavier higher alcohol Aubert and the Ceritas couldn't be more different with the Ferren somewhere in the middle. The group was split between the Ferren and Ceritas as the favorite but all agreed that all the wines were excellent. — 3 years ago
When I find a gem. (@Shay A notes led me to investigate this one. Thanks Shay!).
Ferren was founded by winemaker Matt Courtney after an eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Ferren is dedicated to producing tiny artisanal lots (only 575 cases annually) of single vineyard Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The 2020 Frie Road is ethereal, balanced, and nuanced. So many layers. So much beauty. So much goodness. Will be even better with some age, but I couldn’t wait. — 6 months ago
17’ Arista Perli Vineyards Chardonnay. One of only 18 vineyards on top of an AVA that was just created in 1997. Decanted for an hour. Medium gold in color. Bright pear & stone fruits, spices on the nose. “Sells it”. Pear, yellow apple, honey, pinenuts, moderate acidity/oak. with lively texture flowing through the finish. Unlike Matts Ferren Wines, these aren’t as big in the shoulders. Beautifully balanced Chardonnay. Worth checking out the entire Chardonnay line up since 2016’s. Cheers. Edit- This wine will taste even better in 2021+ — 3 years ago

Love Ferren’s work in Pinot and their Rosé all with some age. Chardonnay’s are good but I’m just not a huge fan of Ca Chardonnay for the most part. Take French white burgundy over almost all of them.
Their Rosé is very clean on the palate with a bit of age. Takes out the sweetness. Tangerine bitters, rhubarb, peach, orange rhine, strawberries, dry top soils, limestone chalk, volcanics, caramel & vanillin haze, pink and red roses. Excellent acidity with a well balanced and polished finish. — 2 months ago
