Monthelie Pinot Noir 2017

Merry Christmas! A perfect choice for Christmas dinner. The nose is alluring with floral aromatics and fresh summer herbs. The palate weight is effortless and ethereal. For all the nimble character, the fruit is pure and fresh with wonderful texture and structure. An absolute pleasure to drink. — 7 months ago

Sur La Velle Monthelie 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2018

Lyle Fass
9.4

Big exuberant nose. Soppy bright red cherries. Mid to late season. Loads of earth, moss and minerals underneath. Spice and florals as well after air. Palate is insanely juicy and dense but with next level freshness and depth. Fruit has energy for days. So pure and deep. Loads of tiny berry cherry intensity fruits here. A great 1er Cru Monthelie. Very exciting. Love this level for 2018 for now and for cellaring. Mouth coating and ripe tannins but also smothered and enclosed with minerals which also provide freshness. Epic. Drink now through 2038 or so. An ager but a great drink every day along the way. — 8 months ago

Mâcon-Verzé Chardonnay

Another excellent OL, a little more mineral and acid than the Aux-D, less crisp and clean but also more buttery than the Mersault / Monthelie — 5 months ago

Domaine Pierre Boisson

Pommard Pinot Noir 2017

This is the Pierre Boisson Pommard, which I guess is the new incarnation of the.Boisson-Vadot Pommard. Decanted. Notes from 2 hrs open. This is a stunning wine, but perhaps more Volnay/Monthelie than quintessentially Pommard: none of the rustic and dark red fruit notes I usually imagine. On the nose: soft smoke, sweet wild cherry, pomegranate, soft spice...on the palate: fantastic acidity, excellent density, sweet wild cherry, pomegranate molasses, damp earth and only very soft tannin. — 7 months ago

Monthélie PInot Noir 2017

Damp earth. Cherries. Mineral. High acid and tight tannin. I’d like to drink this on a Monthelie basis. Wants coq au vin, mushrooms, or grilled salmon. — a year ago

Vieilles Vignes Monthélie Pinot Noir 2016

First, use a large well-shaped glass (this limpid, soft yellow-gold Monthelie is Burgundy, after all, and another textbook example of how fine wine evolves over time after it’s poured). The nose unfolds like a peacock’s tail, with aromas of salted Seckel pears, ripe white peaches, Marcona almonds and lime blossoms moving in and out of the foreground, adding fleeting suggestions of lanolin, balsa, linden, and parsley as the nose develops over time. On the palate, the wine is impressively concentrated, at the same time delicately textured, with an overriding impression of freshness and self-confident elegance. Ample, focused flavors echoing and magnifying the beautiful stone fruit nose are seasoned with palpable briny minerality, and persist in the long, sweet-spice-and-white-pepper seasoned finish. Drink now–2033. — Moore Brothers Wine Co. — 7 months ago
