Domaine Jean-Louis Chave

Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 1999

Opened prior to dinner. The 1999 Blanc pours a slightly hazy, amber color with medium+ viscosity. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of butterscotch, mango, ripe melon, guava, beeswax, mushroom, white and yellow flowers, and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long, almost decadent and full of mushrooms. Both intellectual and hedonistic. Drink now through 2034. — 3 days ago

L'Hermitage Blanc Marsanne Roussanne 2016

Epic night of Chave tonight with JL leading the tasting direct from his cellar. Group liked the newer 16 & 18 although the 04 was youthful & fresh — 20 days ago

Cristal Brut Champagne 2016

Elegance in a bottle. Bright, pale straw color, with big bubbles. Nutty, ripe peach, lemon and chalk aromas. Grapefruit, lemon and a mineral finish. Superb!

Domaine Michel Lafarge

Clos du Château des Ducs Monopole Volnay 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2008

Monopole - Quite tannic.
Has another 5+ years of life ahead of it. Cherry, raspberry - really incredibly tannic! Try again in 2030? Mulberry (yep have a tree so i can compare). Perhaps cranberry - but really nothing along the line „holy shit“ never had this before, Yes an iconic wine - but that does mean i will give it high points just because of the pedigree and 300$ for these is steep!

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Terroir "Champagne" Fleurie Gamay 2015

Leftovers from our 2nd Annual, “Bierock Bonaza: Let’s have some funza with Runza”.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby with a slightly purple tinge and a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of lightly stewed, spiced strawberry, ripe fig, and cherry lozenges, red flowers, green herbs, with a touch of leather, and a mix of organic and inorganic rocky earth. Just the faintest hint of mouse. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The alcohol is also medium+. Delicious. Drink now through 2030.
