Nose is pretty reduced off the bat. Some lime. Some minerals. But a bit stinky. Will blow off. Does as it gets more airy and mineral. Palate is juicy, super mineral and very incisive. Even a bit young. Super well balanced and pure. Wicked acids. Good depth, texture and concentration. Lovely structure and minerals fan out on the finish. Almost a 9.3. Really good length. If nose gets better it will be a 9.3 — 7 days ago

Les Ruchots Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2015

Oof, lovely balance of power and finesse. Wild-grown red and black cherries/berries with a tug-of-war between earth and fruit. Some clay. Tannins still need some integration and this vintage would be best with a few more years; 4-8 ideal. Lovely to drink; enjoyed with duck which was a treat to pair. — 5 days ago

Vieilles Vignes Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2005

A little inflated because the TV show really sucked. Otherwise a 9.3 — 25 days ago

I believe the words uttered on CNN in their post debate commentary was" mess, inside of a dumpster fire, in a train wreck... " I'm so ashamed a civil debate about actual issues couldn't be achieved, but I'm not terribly surprised.

Absolutely accurate and tragic. I hope decorum isn’t a thing of the past.

Dana Bash described it as a “shit show.” It beats me how you can hope to get good federal government, when the guy that leads it behaves as he did in front of 70M people. He needs therapy - we may all need some, too, during the next 40 or so days.

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2000

BBQ at our friends. Nice pop and pour. Dark and opaque. Great Rhône Syrah nose. Notes of black cherry, graphite, pepper, slate stone, spice and some menthol. Nice mouth feel. Not as big as other vintages of this I’ve had but served its purpose well. — 14 days ago

Saintayme Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

So good I had to have two! A gorgeous wine, and surely what anyone could hope to find in good value BDX. Rich, gentle and somewhat smokey nose. Quite dark fruited, with blackberry, bramble and singed tobacco leaf. This is a great example of right bank Bordeaux, with supple, enveloping fruit and chalky tannins, and characteristic aromas. 100% merlot. Though only four years of age, I have to say this drinks very well now. It probably doesn’t have the stuffing to age decades, so I’d drink between now and the next ten years. Still, acidity very high and finishes long. Excellent quality and very good value. — 2 days ago

Dark cherries, blueberries and floral undertones. Medium bodied, supple, ripe and a lovely acidity. The cherries follow through to the end. — 9 days ago

Domaine Hubert Lignier

Tres Girard Morey St. Denis Pinot Noir 2016

I can't help but crack a smile when drinking the Lignier wines of recent. There's just this lovely transparent fruit, often set of a racy, mineral-driven frame. The 2016 Tres Girard is no different - it leads with explosive scents of black cherry, rose, and sarsaparilla, followed by a red berry-saturated palate with strong salinity and subtle earth notes. Plain delicious, a bottle for one. — a month ago

Absolutely agree. Lignier has been on a tear for the last 5 or so vintages.

Bonnes Mares Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Took time to coax it open in the glass. Great structure with a strong core of black and red fruit. Could probably use a couple more years in the cellar for it to soften up a bit more. — 18 days ago
