Domaine De La Petite Cassagne

Las Positas

Estate Livermore Valley Petite Sirah 2016

A very pretty color of dark ruby, with a wide reddish rim.

Nice nose of blueberries, violets, blackberries, black cherries, light oak, vanilla, chocolates, licorice, spices, black pepper, earth and pencil lead. Very enjoyable nose.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, spices, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs, dark chocolates, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a very nice and easy drinking Petite Sirah from California. Showing mild complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Nice and tangy. Spicy, smooth and elegant.

Interesting to see black fruits on the nose and red fruits on the palate. I really enjoyed the nose.

Needs 30 minutes of airtime, and good by itself or with food. Would be nice to revisit it in a couple of years.

I paired it with salami and cheddar cheese.

13.9% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Mountain Vineyard Petite Sirah 2016

This is a very enjoyable Petite Sirah from California. Easy drinking right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up, like most good quality Petite Sirah from California.

Showing black fruits with oak, tobacco, earth, vanilla, peppercorn, pencil lead, chocolates and coffee.

Full bodied with medium acidity with a nice mouthfeel.

Nicely balanced and easy drinking.

Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years.

Nice length on the finish with round tannins.

I paired it with Brie cheese, salami and olives.

Aged in neutral French Oak barrels for 18 months. A small production of 128 cases. 100% Petite Sirah.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

Recanati

Petite Sirah 2016

Decantation: four hours. It's deep, it's powerful. My last bottle from Recanati. I strongly recommend this label. It's easily to find dark fruit there, especially a plum, a blackberry. But the keyword is a coffee or mocha. It's overwhelming. I expected strong tannins, but no, they're mild with some interesting aftertaste. — 12 days ago

So balanced and still can go a number of years. A welcome departure from my recent fare of Napa Cabs. Have missed the subtlety of petite Sirah! — 23 days ago

Suncé Winery & Vineyard

Capp Vineyard Petite Sirah 2015

This is Sierra Foothills wine not Napa. Frogs Tooth Vineyards. Smells like three things blended. Fruits, alfalfa hay, & French perfume. Blackberry. Flavors are lovely. Berry scones and licorice like candies. Smokey but not overpowering. Has an elderberry streak. After linger is epic and lovely. Like a good book in front of a nice fire. — 22 days ago
