Kitá, red blend, Santa Ynez Valley, CA, Vintage 2014, ABV 13.5%. The blend is comprised of 48% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Petit Verdot. @kitawines
👁 It had a beautiful purple hue and vibrant notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, plum, violets, cedar, nutmeg, vanilla, leather, and tobacco. 👃 👄
I loved learning about the background on this wine and winemaker Tara Gomez, who studied enology with financial help from her tribe, the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. 💕 Tara has worked with iconic figures in the California wine world — such as Fess Parker and J. Lohr— and has traveled the world, honing her own unique style of winemaking that blends the best of old world and new world techniques. 👏👏👏 @tgomez805
This red blend is made of grapes grown on the Camp 4 Vineyard, purchased by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians in 2010, when Tara was hired as head winemaker. 🍇🍇 The land was previously cultivated by Fess Parker, who had an influence on Tara’s budding career while interning at Fess Parker Winery during her enology studies.
The word "Kitá" means "Our Valley Oak" in the Santa Ynez Chumash native language of Samala. The wine is speaks to “place” and respect for the land from which it is cultivated. 🌎 🌳 Yields and production are kept small to promote sustainable growing practices and the grapes are harvested by hand and vinified with minimal intervention. — 7 days ago
Medium + intense aromas, dark fresh fruit, black plums, figs, dark cherries and lavender. Definitely on the savoury side with prominent cold meat, pepper and gravel followed by some spicy nutmeg base notes.
Palate is dry with a refreshing acidity with a good freshness throughout , prominent but fine textured tannins, dark fruit on the palate with a slight cedar like coursness. Solid and fresh spine holds the palate through a solid finish — 9 days ago
Excited to try this 2013!. A dark inky purple color while the nose takes you in with aromas of dark cherry-cassis, dark chocolate, subtle mint and touch of meat and sweet cinnamon sugar. Oh my! — creamy, luscious and a full body elegant wine. Blackberry-cherry fruit stand out with deepening tastes of chocolate espresso, bacon fat, pepper spice and cinnamon adding to its long finish. What a delight on this hot Friday night inside our cool home! Got to try it!! — 15 days ago
Great inexpensive wine from Trader Joe’s. This is rated 9 considering the price and taste. $7 — 12 days ago
N: Lemons, ginger, banana peel, very fresh, like a just passed thunderstorms sun. You can smell the oak, but it’s like a ghost in the background.
P:Lemon custard, ever so light, creamy, tart, long finish, slight wood. He was really talented.

If served this “ blind”, very few would peg it as a Cali Chard. A stylistic response to criticism of previous, over the top Chards.
With time and air, some flinty mineral goodness appears along with the sensation of citrus pith. — a day ago
Enticing #centralcoast white blend of #chardonnay and #pinotblanc. Deep golden yellow in the glass, golden pear skin, apricot, and honey notes on the nose. Despite the dark color the use of oak is very subtle. Svelte acid / fruit / alcohol balance on the palate and the wine shines more as it warms up. Some caramel notes. Sumptuous mouthfeel - this is a sturdy-bodied white. — 3 days ago
Out of a .375. Very concerned as the cork crumbled as if it were made out of sand. Filtered multiple times as I tried to remove cork bits. Very spicy and floral on the nose . In the mouth a medley of red fruit and herbs . Very lively acids and almost resolved tannins. Not sure time will do much for the palate but it might add additional complexity to the nose. — 10 hours ago
