Radoy Kerner 2018

100% Kerner produced from a high altitude, biodynamic vineyard in an off-dry style; a style I typically don’t enjoy. But tonight is not a typical night because our dear friends prepared Bo Ssam for dinner and I figured this might just be an appropriate pairing. Light straw color in the glass. Medium to high viscosity. Honeysuckle, honeydew melon, white flowers, and white peach dazzled the nose. There was the slightest hint of gas, presenting as a light prickly sensation to the tongue however, that quickly dissipated. Apricot, melon, citrus and minerals dance across the palate and each sip begged for another bite of the Bo Ssam...which in turn begged for another sip of the Radoar. I should note that there is great acid here, balancing out the RS to perfection. And while I still don’t prefer this style, I can not deny how lovely this was with such a fine meal. I wouldn’t bat an eye at making this selection again. What a delight! — 4 months ago

Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Delectable Wine

Bright red-ruby. Exceptional aromatic purity and complexity to the aromas of blueberry, cassis, cocoa powder, mocha, spices and minerals; some very ripe berry pie notes emerged with air. Wonderfully creamy, silky and deep; an utterly seamless wine with the underlying soil-driven minerality to energize and frame its fleshy flavors of dark fruits and spices. This is yet another 2010 whose impression of refinement belies the weather extremes of the growing season. Finishes with building but perfectly integrated tannins and outstanding length. This is already approaching its plane of peak drinkability but I'd still want to hold my bottles for at least a few more years. ("You really had to be a good farmer in 2010," noted Bo Barrett) (Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2020)

Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2014

Lyle Fass

Superb aromas. Lemon curd, lime zest, minerals on minerals, spiced apple, some pear, some hints of funk. Like the good BO. BO after sex kind of BO. Palate is elegant, grippy and superbly made. Elegant, complex and just delightful. Has that 14 tensile nervousness but also shows that 14 while having acid does not have depth of 17 or 18. Long. So well made with lingering lemons on the finish. — 5 months ago
