Chablis? Had a feeling of Montrachet here, a bit more buttery to my liking. — 8 months ago

Domaìne du Pavìllon Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2019

Delectable Wine
9.4

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a powerful lemon verbena, orange pith and French patisserie nose, with plenty of energy and commendable delineation. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. It’s slightly creamy in texture, with white peach and a touch of sesame oil, building commendably toward an intense finish. This is true Grand Cru quality. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2023)

Les Malconsorts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

I have been a long time fan of Les Malconsorts as it is a neighbour of La Tache at a fraction of the price. We chose not to decant with the advice of the Somm but after 40 minutes and vigorous swirling maybe we should have. Initially closed but then developed a savoury red fruited nose. Extended through to the mid weight palate and developing with aeration but with no great complexity. After an hour more aromatics and more alluring - a red fruited, red floral, verging on meaty perfume. A recent Malconsorts I had from Sylvain Caithard exceeded this one. A very good but not a “wow” wine. One of those Burgundies which do not live up to expectations nor the price paid. — 3 months ago

@Bob McDonald We all talk about "closed" bottles but, in your humble opinion, can bottle be too "open?" I say yes.

@Scott@Mister A’s-San Diego A couple of comments. For a Premier Cru as prestigious as Malconsorts only 7 years old might be a bit young to be tasting it. Also Maison Albert Bichot perhaps does not source the fruit quality of say, Sylvain Caithard. In fact I believe the Somm said that Bichot purchases fruit from other growers within Malconsorts.

Also, as mentioned, we should have decanted.
