Roots Run Deep Winery

Educated Guess Napa County Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Interesting enterprise to taste a 12 year old #napa #cabernetsauvignon in the value segment of the market likely around $15 - $20 at release. Cork was well soaked and wine tastes of age, but not tired at all. In fact after a day in the fridge it seems to have gained some vim. Typical bramble fruit set on top of stewed plums. Palate is a bit earthier, less fruit-forward - plenty of acidity, chocolate and coffee notes mid-palate and still sturdy tannins on the finish. It must have been stored well at the retailer. — 2 months ago

Big and bold but not overpowering. Would appreciate a touch more subtly. Another winner form ancient peaks — 2 months ago

Bucklin

Old Hill Ranch Ancient Field Blend Zinfandel 2019

Drank over 2 days. Day 1, great nose, exuberant fruit, big tannic structure. Day 2, tannins recede but still great nose and fruit. Bucklin bottles are also notably lighter than standard so environmentally good as well. — 3 months ago

Belle Glos

Las Alturas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

‘Las Alturas' Spanish for 'the heights', a fitting name, this vineyard located on one of the highest grape-growing benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA. 4th gen Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner from family with farming & winemaking roots in Napa since 1906. Met Joe several times. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot I have come across). Nice berry and floral spice aromas. Rich cherry/plum flavors with oak, spice and vanilla. Long finish, bold ending with sweet oak notes. Nice! A Fav! — 16 days ago

Ancient Peaks

Santa Margarita Ranch Zinfandel

Somewhat different style than the zinfandels from this region that you might be used to. This is not the overblown punch you in your face ripe red fruit Zin. This is it has an elegance to it and restrain fruit gives way to a very balanced wine with a sense of place. Absolutely delicious. — 3 months ago

Belle Glos

Clark & Telephone Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

Crafted by Joseph J. Wagner, 4th generation winemaker, with winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Deep Ruby with red berry fruit aromas, tea and sweet spice notes. On the palate flavors of jammy blackberry and cherry with pronounced sweet vanilla oak, cacao and pepper spice notes. Soft tannins and bright acidity, well balanced, with mineral tones on a long finish ending with toasty spice! Nice! A restaurant favorite! — 5 months ago
