This was a lovely wine from one of the classic cooler German vintages in a #magnum and it was really tasty!
Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland is perhaps the #rheingau's greatest vineyard site because of its steepness and predominantly #slate soil. Yes, indeed, it resembles the Mosel and that's a good thing! — 9 years ago
Here's the Big Daddy of the #EmrichSchönleber estate and as one taster recently commented..."like liquid rocks" due to the high #slate content in the vineyard, which gives the wine its distinctive #mineral character. Again, this wine will benefit tremendously from not only further bottle aging, but also decanting or even double decanting prior to serving. #Halenberg #Riesling #GrossesGewächs #dry #trocken #Nahe

Here is another great, #dry #Mosel from 2013 that's packed with layered, spicy, powerful flavors due to its #red #slate soil--drink this with Asian cuisines of all kinds or simply by itself--this wine SINGS! #clemensbusch #Riesling #vomrotenschiefer — 9 years ago
Named after the cranes which migrate south annually and hover above these vineyards to catch the upward currents on warm afternoons. Previously named the #Halenberg #Riesling #trocken, this wine actually comes from a steep upper portion of the "#Halenberg" vineyard and tends to be very #mineral in character, due to the great amount of gray #slate in the soil. A pure, mineral, beautifully crafted dry Riesling. #EmrichSchönleber #Halgans #Riesling #trocken — 9 years ago
#1934 was one of the three best vintages of that decade in #Germany, along with 1937 & 1938.
The #Staatsweingut #Rheingaus produced in this era were excellent; especially those from the steep, #slate soil sites of the majestic Rüdesheimer Berg.
This is a perfectly balanced wine when it comes to sweetness versus acidity and in no way a big, fat, syrupy overstated example of late-picked #Riesling, but rather restrained by comparison...a wine one can easily drink more than one glass of--GRANDIOS!!! #klostereberbach #tba — 10 years ago

And we begin with the #GG's! Only gray #slate from the middle section of the greater Marienburg and sourced from "younger vines" that are already 30 years old. A sleeping giant at this point but given ample time to breathe and open up in a decanter it is an impressive experience! #ClemensBusch #Riesling #Marienburg #GrossesGewächs #Mosel #terroirist — 8 years ago
