Sami-Odi

Hoffman Dallwitz Little Wine #8 Syrah

Colour is very dark and on the rim almost a catholic cerise at the edge of the glass. A lovely old vine iteration from Fraser. Medium bodied. Subtly different from other old vine Barossa Cuvées with perfect balance and definitely not a blockbuster. Herbal notes with dried plum and spice/pepper. So easy to drink. A blend of 5 vintages from 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018 giving a supple smooth palate and length forever. Fraser has excelled himself here even by his high standards. Probably this is the best “Little Wine” I can recall tasting. I just ordered my annual allocation yesterday of 12 bottles covering 3 Cuvées including Little Wine #12. — a year ago

My take is Alban and SQN are nothing like SamiOdi. I could see more current release SQN being closer to SamiOdi due to more bright/whole cluster profile, but Alban IMO, is always massive and too hot, even compared to SQN.

Ordered my case direct from Australia for the sixth year in a row. Shipping sucks, but still worth it.

Drinking the wrong Albans too early Shay. I was just asking if these were similar, I wouldn’t know. I think I only had one bottle.

I’d want to try a 15-20 year old SQN, but can’t afford it. So that also tells you the difference. SQN has the advantage obviously,

More heat and sweetness. Not as elegant as Ovello but seems a bigger wine. Finish also long but more black fruits. Gordons tasting #12 — 8 years ago
