Au Bon Climat

Julia's Vineyard Pinot Noir 2016

First Pinot produced from this Kendall Jackson vineyard named after Jess Jackson’s daughter, Julia. Fruit forward with tons of fruit aromas, herb and oak notes, aged for 12 months in French oak, 25% new, making this wine fresh and vibrant good for drinking now, and some short-term aging. The 2016 was a good year with an early harvest with perfectly ripe fruit. On the palate, strawberry and cherry flavors with baking spice and gentle oak. Fine tannins, lingering ending with fruit and subtle spice character. — 5 years ago

Echezeaux Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The first of 5 Grand Crus from Chambolle Musigny Vougeot and Flagey Echezeaux. Spicy red fruits with some stemmy influence. Wood in evidence as well as tannin. High toned. GC quality. Very good. Needs time. — 5 years ago

Les Suchots Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2001

Deep tawny color. Almost opaque. Exotic nose. Notes of raspberries, Asian spice, black pepper and a little bit of stem. Rich and fruit forward in the mouth. Got better and better with air; in hour 7 you’d be guessing blind this is DRC. — 5 years ago

Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2017

Pure, clean, bright acidity, and a touch of earthy cola. Every year this is a great buy. Nailed it on salmon night. — 5 years ago

Always great stuff. How do you beat that for 20 bucks.

Au Bon Climat

Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2016

Fantastic Chardonnay from Au Bon Climat. Lemon zest and melon flavors with hints of the same on the nose. This is a stellar Chardonnay for the money, comparable to fine Chablis from France. Perfect for a sunny spring evening! — 6 years ago

Beaux Frères

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

A lovely balanced Pinot for an unbalanced Oscars so white night. Surprisingly rich and deep berries but with so much fun spice. Methinks maybe this spent some time in a wee bit of new oak too—but mainly I love the white pepper and baking spice fun on it. — 5 years ago
