A bit chocolate-y? Black berries has a bite to it. — 3 years ago
1978 Chuck Hope left beverage job, moved to Paso Robles, became farmer, & top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from 5 small blocks of Paso Robles AVAs, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, long fruit finish. The 15% ABV, slight burn, but ok. Nice! — 6 years ago

Cigars and ripe red cherries on the nose. Red apples from the Wizard of Oz trees and smoked bing cherry on the palate. Click your heels, Toto. We’re not in Kansas anymore. Grab your broomstick and take flight with this delightful berry manifestation. Or take shelter. This berry hurricane is headed straight for your mouth. — 8 years ago
Decant for sediment(minimal sediment)and pour. A majestic still dark magenta with some bricking. On the nose: beautiful notes of dark fruit, pencil shavings, menthol, potting soil, floral, grilled meat. Taste: silky wine with blackberry/dark cherry, black tea, cinnamon, minerals, licorice, graphite and a dry, astringent, spiced espresso medium plus finish with a touch of heat. Finish is not working for me, but see how it evolves as the night goes. — 12 days ago

Fantastic as a belated 50th New Year celebration with a good duck foie gras. First experience with d’Yquem - need to start working on the justification for the next. — 8 years ago
