1978 Chuck Hope left beverage job, moved to Paso Robles, became farmer, & top grape grower. Working with his father, Austin led family into winemaking in ‘95, creating his label in 2000. Grapes from 5 small blocks of Paso Robles AVAs, aged in 75% new French oak, 18 mos. Dark Ruby, aromas of sweet ripe black fruits & dried smoky spices. Flavors of ripe blackberry, sweet cacao, espresso & vanilla oak. Big wine, fine tannins that needed 45 minutes, long fruit finish. The 15% ABV, slight burn, but ok. Nice! — 6 years ago

Finally opening this wine from Jennifer’s farewell luncheon and it is exquisite! Mike Trujillo’s winemaking prowess is on display and there is the perfect blend of strength and finesse with this wine. I love these wines and sad we don’t get to look forward to more vintages of her brand but glad that TRB has taken the reigns of what the vineyard has to offer. — 6 years ago

On the nose, the forward aromas are sweet-honey and brown sugar. On the palate, the acidity balances it all off with ripe lime zest and granite/petrol. Its thinner and shorter than you’d want it to be, but it also has a visceral personality with an oily slipperiness that really rounds it back into solid form. — 6 years ago
