Landwein Chardonnay 2023

Tasted at Bells in Los Alamos a ⭐️ Restaurant. More or less like a Meursault for much less and on the list for just 80$ an incredible deal at a Restaurant. Lemon, lemon curd, some stone fruit (apricot?) hint tangerine. — 2 months ago

German Chardonnay has made great strides and is not well appreciated here.

Great - that keeps the prices in check - I love it!

Filzen Chardonnay 2019

Very tart, just ripe but energetic and crystalline. With time open this gains volume, revealing pineapple, yuzu, and dazzling minerals. This has a good future. — 2 years ago

I tried to get hold of these guys and was just 10 Miles away. Will try again the wines tend to be pricy here. USA.

And it was hard to get an appointment. Unusual for Germany - no tasting room.

Kanzel Spätburgunder 2020

Claus brought the heat. Never had this vineyard. I finally believe in German Pinot. Wow. Reminded me of 27 latache. A bit of spice, stems, but not green. And pure elegance. Featherweight and ethereal! — 3 years ago

Gutedel 2022

Essentially Chasselas, Fendant. Called Gutedel in Baden/Germany. Remarkable 10.5%. Dry crisp and juicy. I am biased. Have been to Staufen and i believe Baden is really the most interesting Wine Region in the World almost everything grows from Syrah, Pinot, Syrah, Muscat and more. Gutedel is a wine one drinks almost out of a Stein. A wine for the masses. This example is more nuanced with a touch of raw hazelnut, hint of lemon 🍋, hint jasmine and almond blossoms. Hint Brett. Robust and delicate at the same time. Depends on your mood I guess and ones mood in the moment. 30$ in the US over there often <10Euro. Give it air! 15 min in the glass. Warm it up a little. It turns into a beauty with notes of orange blossoms. — a year ago

Landwein Riesling 2018

Shy, muted nose, flirting between the naturalistic and the classical.
Bruised apple, baked lemon, hay, meadow flowers.
The magic happens on the palate. Slightly richer mouthfeel balanced by racy, zippy, bright acidity. There’s a hint of tannins, brilliant energy & tension, and a core of minerality underneath the the shy apples, apricots & lemons.
This doesn’t taste like a Riesling at first, yet deep inside it has some cues.
At 11.5% this is brilliantly drinkable!
Only downside - bloody difficult to get & it ain’t cheap.
