Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening!
What a treat this will be in 10yrs! Very youthful right now. I don’t know how the grapes are used here, but it was reminiscent of whole cluster Pinot. Similarities to the Antica Terra Angelical wine but more spice and denser core. Lifted and energetic profile. Smoked and slightly bloodied with iron and smoky beef jerky. The finish showed tart mulberries and baked black cherries. Oak wasn’t very noticeable. Hold. — 5 days ago
Enjoying a very nice Rioja tonight. Deep ruby color. Medium intensity nose with notes of red plums, coffee and a little bit of road tar. Great flavors of dark fruit, chocolate covered cherries, cola, and a hint of licorice. Medium acidity and medium tannins. Very nicely integrated and a very nice finish with a very slight hint of mint. — 24 days ago
1962 Vega Sicilia Unico. Most interesting wine of the tasting. Started out with classic earth, funk notes. Decanted abt an hour before pouring. In the glass, abt 2 hours into dinner, wine took on coffee, toffee, butter notes. Great body. — 16 days ago
Still shining beautifully. — 7 days ago
For what I paid, this was a ridiculously good wine. Phenomenal aroma (bottle says quince) but I think pear, apple works. On the palette, it also worked. With chicken scallapini, it was great. Like a more (not much, but super tasty) powerful vino verde. — 20 days ago

From Bodega Vega Sicilia. Unbelievable that this is a secondary wine. Rich, deep, wonderful nose. I had the 2013 in 2019. — 24 days ago
