Dom Pérignon

Brut Rosé Champagne 2009

Such a special Champagne, one of my favorites among rosés.

I try to remember every vintage I taste. They’re always exceptional: strawberry skin, brioche, beautifully structured with a fine mousse, layered and precise.

Tonight, there’s a new note I just picked up, blood orange, and I’m completely into it.

Marc Hébrart

Brut 1er Cru Rosé Champagne Blend

The Hébrart domaine is located right on the Marne, in the village of Aÿ, catty-corner to Philipponnat. Their 1er cru Rosé, NV is a 60/40 mix of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, aged in INOX (with a small portion of the PN added as vin rouge aged in barrique). What’s most important, is that it’s delicious.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The wine pours a very pretty pink color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry, lemon, pink flowers, marzipan and limestone minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with a lovely, creamy texture. Serious enough for the nerds; seriously gluggable for the revelers. Disgorged April of 2023. Drink now.

Jacques Selosse

Lieux Dits Aÿ La Cote Faron Extra Brut Grand Cru Champagne Blend

The first “ah ha” Selosse wine for me many years ago. The south facing La Côte Faron is particularly “Selossien” and therefore particularly singular, with its oxidative complexity, textural richness and generous sun kissed ripe fruit expression. Like all Selosse wines, it’s layered and particularly aromatic for Champagne with intense caramelized red berry fruit, licorice and wildflower honey. The palate shows tremendous volume and intensity with a powerful, full bodied and satiny texture and a long, vibrant, mineral finish. So good. — 2 months ago

Yes, the oxidative quality of this champagne stands alone, even amongst other Selosse wines. I adore it.

La Grande Année Brut Champagne Blend 2015

A nice bottle though it seemed a bit tired/flat for me. On second thought maybe I was the one who was tired 🤦‍♂️ — 2 days ago

Light body, yet rich in flavor. Smooth, with no distracting notes or aftertaste. A nice vintage—great with a light meal, charcuterie, or dessert — a month ago

Au Paradis Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Nose is faint, fully resolving into the body. Body is soft and supple but wonderful experience on the palate with medium finish. Great wine. Tannins are still there, but holding the body with gossamer gloves. — 3 months ago
