Franci Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2007

Elegant & mature. Slight bricking. Trace tannins on opening but blew off within a few hours and only mild on day 2. Nose is ripe plum and balsamic. Palate is soft and elegant with mouthwatering layers and layers of dark fruit, cherry, leather, undergrowth, red clay. Long soft satisfying finish. To be savored. — 2 months ago

Laurel Glen Vineyard

Counterpoint Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 1995

Always been a fan of the 1995 Cal Cabs, this shows just a trace of a green note up front, but nicely balanced, ready to drink, second label Laurel Glen!! — 3 years ago

Miss those 80's and 90's vintages of Laurel Glen. Tough love in a bottle.

Clonakilla

Canberra District Shiraz Viognier 2014

An absolutely alluring nose with cloves, spice, dried meat and a trace of pepper. Barely medium weight on the palate. Barb loved it for that. Very different to Barossa or McLaren Vale Shiraz. Without a doubt the best Shiraz Viognier blend in Australia although Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 2 (with a few other Rhone varieties in the blend) would give it a run for its money. Really very good with a few years to go but pretty much at its peak. — 3 months ago

Laurel Glen Vineyard

Sonoma Mountain Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1985

Absolutely lovely older Cal Cab, faint browning, still shows loads of structure, just a trace of a green note lurks underneath, but balanced with a long, lingering finish, great stuff!! — 2 years ago

A. Rafanelli

Unfiltered Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013

Deep inky purple and not a trace of brick. Heavy tar and jam (not off-putting) on the nose and not surprisingly a bit of alcohol. Delicious balance of jaminess and ripe black fruit. Enjoy in next couple years though to taste the fruit. Drinking with berebere chicken and rice. — 3 years ago

Meadowcroft

River Trace Grenache Blend 2021

Deep purple in color with a wide purplish rim.

Sweet nose of black fruits, light oak, spices and lots of chocolates notes.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with black currants, blackberries, sweet plums, cooked cherries, spices, oak, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, tobacco and light herbs.

Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty GSM blend from California. Nicely balanced and fruit forward.

Still young, but showing nice complexity already.

Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself as a sipping wine. A nice pop and pour kind of wine. Will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.

Paired nicely with a Charcuterie board of dried meats and cheeses. Would pair well with Lamb dishes.

A blend of 66% Grenache, 21% Syrah and 13% Mourvèdre. Aged in Hungarian oak barrels. A small production of only 2,600 bottles.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$52.

Seavey Vineyard

Caravina Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Opened to celebrate my son’s 15th birthday and poured alongside the 2006 Eagle’s Trace “Latitude 38”. The 2006 Seavey Caravina pours a deep garnet color with a completely opaque core. No obvious signs of age in the glass. Medium+ viscosity. On the nose, medium+ intensity, with strong pipe tobacco notes, currants, black cherry, figs, some green bell pepper and leather. On the palate dark fruits dominate with black cherry, black currants and blackberries. The tobacco and leather is also there accompanied by semi-sweet baking chocolate, baking spice and some anise. The wine finishes dry with medium tannins, most of which are well integrated at this point. Medium+ acid. Medium plus alcohol. The finish is long. Another very lovely vintage of Caravina, aging gracefully.
