This one is very Neiss (pun intended) 🤡
There is petrol on the nose, along with elder flower, citrusy notes, and a chalky thing too, lingering in the back. The palate is made of a massive acid backbone that goes on for ever, great width with lemon notes and lemon curd too, some grippy mouthfeel that expands in the rear before a zesty, lemony finish that goes for ever and that's very fresh. Definitely my kind of dry riesling! Neiss one! (ok that's already one too many) — 4 years ago

Very very good. Should have bought several bottles! — 7 years ago
Aromas of raspberry and hints of Thyme and Mint. Oak has fully blended into the fruit at 12 years and is totally balanced. The hallmark of this wine has always been its soft silky tannins; like its more famous elder sibling Hill of Grace for many more $. Medium bodied and in a great place right now in its development. Superb wine in a good vintage from a Vineyard planted in 1912 - dry grown ungrafted vines. Winery says can cellar to 2025. 9 weeks later picked the next one a little soon but I did. Notes as above. Cannot say more - just an excellent wine. Perfect with roast lamb. — 8 years ago
2007 vintage. Tasting 17+ years later... On the nose, this is blackberry syrup and black cherry flesh... On the palate, there is an acidic wispiness of cherry much like the kirschiness of cherry pits soaked in vodka... A big body here though as this plays above a powerful leatheriness that extends well through the long finish. Tannins still have something to say. Grippy. I haven't had this vintage in a few years and it will be interesting to see whether the amazing-in-youth '08 also carries this well into its elder years. This '07 was a very nice treat so many years on. — a year ago

2019 is 100% Pinot noir. Nose is wonderful. Flowers, dark berries, baking spices, red apple skins, bit of earth. Palate is bigger than you’d expect. Big tannin, dusty red fruits, more herbs and baking spice, dried cherries, good tannin. It’s big a brawny but there’s this underlying lovely light flavors that continue to evolve on the palate. Will likely age for many years. — 4 years ago
🍇2019 Ronco del Gnemiz Friulano San Juan
Enchanting and thrilling with a lovely texture. Somehow it reminds me of a mix of a white Burgundy and high quality Sancerre. A wine that is right up my alley. Serve it at 12 degrees in a generous Burgundy glass. Serve it with something tasty.
Good concentration on the nose that opens up with some green apples, grape fruit and elder flower that is soon overtaken by richer characters of juicy peaches, orange and honey. Toasted nuts and a pronounced crushed fruit mineralogy brings further complexity.
Full bodied and a generous entry with a balancing fresh acidity. Pronounced fruit concentration and strong mid palate yet with a slime waste and lovely salty texture that brings nerve and tension through a very solid finish. Well Done! — 5 years ago
Second menetou blanc of the evening. Still with oysters. A dryer version. Lemony and grassy nose with a zesty twist. A nice and long palate with a strong acid backbone, lemon notes and even elder flower, and a long finish with fruit and again that herbal touch. It's a tad lighter than the previous one, a bit dryer — 6 years ago
Bright red with youthful purple tinges. Fresh aromatic notes showing its youth with spice and peppercorn. A medium bodied Syrah in the northern Rhone cool climate mould. Have always loved this wine and possibly my favourite Under $30 red in Australia. It’s elder brother the “Langi” has skyrocketed in price to $160 a bottle but the Cliff Edge has remained around the $30 mark. Great QPR. Had another bottle 43 weeks later on December 30 2020 with consistent notes although lacking a little fruit - possibly the cooler vintage. Still excellent QPR. Also at Paros like the first bottle. — 6 years ago
A lovey amalgam of aromas of blackberry mocha and aniseed which follow through onto the full bodied palate - very much the DNA of mature Penfolds. Not sure that anybody does the Cabernet Shiraz Blend better than they do. The Yalumba Signature would come close. Going to a Yalumba Dinner tonight so it will be good to reacquaint with the Signature. This was more enjoyable than its more expensive elder brother the Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet from the same year, 1996, drank recently - the latter lacking finesse. 69% Cabernet Sauvignon; 31% Shiraz. — 8 years ago
Surprisingly fresh with 25y of age - with wilted flowers and some shy, dusty cherry.
Nice pure fruit in the forefront of the palate with a bit of undergrowth & musty cellar in the back. Tannins still firm and acidity fresh. Nice purity.
What a nice, if elder surprise. — 3 years ago
I think this is now my favorite cider ever. So f-Ing good. Every time I drink this, it seems to be better than the last. Maybe this is my Pliny the elder of cider! — 4 years ago
Explosive aromatics of lavender, elder flower, tangerine peel and gooseberry. On the palate fresh citrus, bright acidity with a long finish. This wine would be easily confused with a great bottle from Alsace. Super refreshing with all the floral complexity that this varietal can elicit. Excellent wine. Thanks Pat for the recommendation! — 5 years ago
What a nose 😱! This is incredibly good. A very strong mineral scent first, like crushed oysters and chalk. Then comes elder flower and lemon. This is beautiful. I never had such a beautiful Sauvignon nose. The palate is very delicate and a little bit restrained at this point, even after one hour and half of breathing time. Very strong acid drive, a chalky mouthfeel with lemony, grassy touches that goes on for ever. Great tasting experience, would definitely come back to it a year or 2. It paired so well with lobsters! — 6 years ago
This smells intensely of sage and sage flowers, along with passion fruit, grapefruit and elder flower. (“I am Scheurebe, hear me roar!”) Given such a resounding opening gambit, the wine proves (relatively!) discreet on the polished palate, turning in a coolingly minty and melony direction while preserving such luscious fruit as well as herbal pungency as the aromas promised. The terrifically-sustained finish is infectiously juicy, exhibiting overt but perfectly-integrated and supportive sweetness. Sage, grapefruit zest and smoky black tea accents serve for invigorating counterpoint. On occasion, the Rumpfs have demonstrated that these vines in the Dautenpflänzer can yield Scheurebe capable of playing in the Pfeffingen or Müller-Catoir league – and this is one of those delicious occasions. (On the heels of this beauty – on November 2, 2018 – I tasted a dry 2018 Scheurebe trocken, from fruit harvested in mid-September, that was already improbably delicious; but the Dautenpflänzer Scheurebe grapes from 2018 had been picked only a few days before I visited!) Interestingly it was almost impossible for me to tell the difference between the 2019 and 2021. So much lovely crunchy fruit. Great wines. — 6 months ago
