Dunn Vineyards

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

1.5 hour decant(surprisingly just a little cloudy sediment). A prodigious medium dark garnet color with little signs of aging. On the nose: funky stewed meats, blackberry, smoke, plum, minty pepper, creme de cassis. Taste: KABOOM! Rich, silky, full body wine with blackberry, earth, cedar, wet gravel, menthol and a cassis pencil lead long finish with some ashy tannins. In its prime drinking window and this 13.8% alc wine should rock another 10 years. Cheers! — 9 days ago

Terra Valentine

Estate Grown Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

A blend of 77% Cab Sauv, 13% Merlot, 7% Syrah, 3% Petite Sirah & 1% Cab Franc, deep Ruby with aromas of rich ripe berry fruits, cedar and earthy herb spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum, with cacao, tobacco and oaky notes. Nice balance, soft chewy tannins, long finish ending with creamy vanilla spice and cedar character. Nice value! — 10 days ago

Ciel du Cheval Vineyard Red Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

Mint and tabac on the nose - very appealing.

Heavy handed, dark berries that reflect well with the eucalyptus and fresh, wet tobacco.
Blackberry acidity and tongue depressing tannins.
A truly fantastic wine that is a great value.
I’ve been really into WA state wines for the purity of fruit amd expressiveness.
If I still smoked a cigar, this would be in the other hand.

Cade

Estate Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

9.3

We drove up Howell Mountain to get to Cade two Sundays ago. What we witnessed was a horror show of fire damage. It’s hard to see nature destroyed in such a fashion. What was worse were all the brick chimneys only standing where there were once a home or a winery building.

Glass fire note. The fire investigation revealed the fire was started by a Cakebread electric fence short. An additional saddening note is Dolores Cakebread, the co-founder of Cakebread Cellars died shortly after the Glass Fire started. She was 90. No way to know if the stress of the fire factored into her passing.

The Howell Mountain was showing better than the Estate...rounder & a touch softer. The tannins were big, grainy, meaty, tarry & dry. This needs another 8 years in bottle to shine. I think at that point, it will push more 94-95. Ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, plum & dark cherries. Showing big wood as well...like sucking on a wood plank. Used dark expresso grounds, leather, graphite, dry tobacco, dry brush, dark chocolate, caramel, dark spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla, some black licorice notes. dry, crushed rock powder, dry top soils with fresh, dark, red & purple flowers. The acidity is nicely executed. The finish will take time. It’s good, well balanced but, showing little of the integration I prefer.

Photos of; Cade Estate vines, outside patio tasting area, infinity wall and their Estate Cabernet fruit unharvested. Sadly, about 80-85% of the 2020 Napa Valley Cabernet fruit will never see bottling.

I really like Cade’s Howell Mountain. Great review. The fire destruction is so sad.

There are some wines that wow you at first sip. The 15 Reserve is certainly that kind of wine. It was simply, lush, ruby, elegant, stunning, gorgeous & flat out sexy. The structure, tension, balance & length show the beat of the vintage & Winemakers craft. I’ll want to revisit this in 10-15 years. Hard to resist now but, I’ll wait to get the full value of my investment which, should add a point or two. You’ll want to experience its integration at that age. This will cellar nicely 30 years with proper storage.

Ripe, round, lush & opulent fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, cherries & strawberries. Melted caramel, dark cola, mocha, dark chocolate, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, mid dark spices, steeped fruit tea, soft leather, saddle-wood, stones, crushed, dry rocks, soft, understated volcanics with fresh & candied florals that are; dark, red & purple. Acidity is round & beautiful. The finish is flat out gorgeously stunning. Incredible balance & elegance that persists heavenly on the palate for minutes.

This a prime example of why I love & buy Cade.

Les Volés Mourvèdre Estate Vineyard Red Mountain 2017

Off the truck Friday,
Obviously too early for true comparison to other Mourvedre’s, but its promising. I’ll save the other bottles for awhile

The 2017 Mourvèdre Les Volés comes from a single block of the estate vineyard and is all Mourvèdre.

Mountain Cuvée Proprietor's Blend 2018

This is an absolute beautiful wine. Bought it at a nice little wine shop in Del Ray beach Florida. I told them what I like and this is what was recommended. I can’t express how velvety smooth it is with just a little bit of tannin and lots of fruit. I may have to place an order for more! Will end this busy Monday on a very fine note. — 10 hours ago
