Glory is this wine. Just one of the best wines in Burgundy now. After the 22 I had large expectations and this surpassed them. Nose is just bananas. Not literal bananas. The other type of bananas. The most complex cherry diaspora. Sour, mid season, late season and black. Spice galore and florals up the wazoo. Earth, limestone, dead leaves, living leaves and wet leaves. The nose is a 9.8 on the pop and pour. Just insane. Wild mint. What stands out the most is the layering and the clarity. Also the breadth. Wow that inner mouth perfume and endless, boundless energy that has the same fruit energy as La Tache. What I mean by that is this wine, yes can be about minerals as CDC is rocky, but man the fruit in 22 and now 23 is just in another register. Sappy, poised and clear as the sky is blue on a cloudless day. Yes the tannins are firm but you know with air they will melt into the fruit. The nobility of this site never fails to blow me away. Unreal concentration and density and just insane length. The tannins are velvety, sweet and intense but so so high class. Nose has so much florality, spice and red cherry fruit one cannot believe it. This is just insane. It’s almost a perfect wine. The balance is just beyond and the structure is incredible. This is a 50 year CDC. What a finish. Let’s see where this goes. After an hour the nose is remarkable. So deep, so nuanced, so spicy, so floral. Provocative. Palate is silky, sweet and so dense. Pumps the fruit out like an old set of Wilson Puppies. Unreal balance and purity. But this is built like a brick house. Let’s see where this goes. Will unfurl more but it’s a slow one! The concentration and tiny berry fruit intensity is off the charts. Now after 17 hours open its nose is full blown complex and flat out stunning. The cherry trifecta of sour/mid season and black. Mint and bramble plus wonderful and gorgeous sous bois. Stoney as well. All velvety bramble and such elegant and ripe tannin. A wave. Stunning inner mouth aromas, tiny berry fruit intensity and stunning purity. This seems like it’s more classic than the 22. Even on day 3 this is stunning. Lost nothing. — a year ago
Holy hell this is great. I mean wow. Leather galore. Gorgeous, stunning, pure. So granitic and mineral. So expansive. Cocoa. Mint. Olive. So wafting and expansive. Palate is rich, ripe and dense with stunning purity, red berry fruit, a gamey, stoney character and lots of freshness. Awesome acids. Really elegant as well. Terrific inner mouth aromas. Really complex and finishes very stoney. So so long. Will only open more. I won’t get to evolve with it as I’m dropping off at a friend’s place for him to enjoy with dinner with some friends he needs to impress. Wow, this is long! Sickness. — 5 years ago

Apple, lemon curd, dried apricot, honey and blood orange. Bright acidity and good minerality. — 4 years ago
Yowza. This is magnificent. Nose is cherry compote, confectionery aromas, huge stoney minerals and so much complexity. Cherry pit with some black cherry flesh left on it. Just bitten cherry basically. Man it’s so stoney. So old school and so expressive. One of my favorite bottling in Burgundy. Palate is super complex with just so much going on. Amazing depth. Deep deep ocean here. Sappy and concentrated with just incredible palate cleansing minerality. Wow. So elegant and perfectly balanced. Yes it’s young but it’s not inaccessible. Which is the key when drinking young wine. This nose keeps expanding and expanding. Stunning. Velvety and sweet tannins and they are abundant but ripe. Can’t wait to journey with this as the night progresses. — 4 years ago
Outstanding wine. On the young side, but I really savored it and geeked out 🤓
On opening:
Very restricted and obviously young. Tight, bitter, stoney aroma in the glass. Not the best time to drink it, but not bad and clearly well made. Not much alcohol showing, even at 15% abv
2+ hours:
Starts to open up with underripe raspberry fruit and herbal aromatics
3rd day:
Fully open with amazing red fruit complexity. Raspberry is still leading with dry notes of current and cranberry. Savory and white pepper, refined acidity and balance. — 6 years ago
2002. Yummo. — 7 years ago
I am not a port drinker, but this one changed my feelings on port! Bought while in Portugal on a wine tour and wish I would have bought more. Delicious, jammy, bold, full of flavors. Hope I can find it locally!! — 9 months ago
Juicy, brambly, dripping with bright florals and herbs, stoney too. Always delicious — 3 years ago

Sourced from the esteemed ‘Stoney Vine Vineyard’ in the Walla Walla Rocks AVA, the 2017 ‘Tall Tales’ Syrah begins with lovely stony undertones that mingle with the green olive tapenade, bacon fat, cigar ash and clove aromatics that all marvelously combine in the glass. The texture imparted is seriously good as is the flavor range from Satsuma orange zest to ripe red cherry to shades of Umami, bulls blood and sweet pipe tobacco. Delicious now, this will continue to evolve well over the next eight to ten years — but why wait? Drink 2019-2026- 93 — 7 years ago
