Seneca Lake Dry Pinot Noir Rosé 2018

This is my first time having a FLX rosé. Very unique. This was a gorgeous deep pink in the glass. Oddly enough, this was really “spritzy” shortly after pouring. Being pinot and CF, there aren’t many of those sweet, tropical fruits you get on a lot of Napa & Sonoma rosés...watermelon rind, rhubarb tart and a distinct herbal flair aromatics. Acidity feels quite mellow so there is a definite round and soft feel here on the palate. Bruised cherries, strawberry skin and peach. This may sound odd, but there is a note here that reminds me of a cherry limeade. Very solid for the $20 price point. — a month ago

Definitely do not sleep on wines from the FLX. Some great Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Cabernet Franc coming out of there.

@Jason Brater Thanks, I'm fully on board with the quality coming from FLX, been a long time fan of HJW. Knowing they have rosé makes me smile, not seeing that one previously.

@Jason Brater @Severn Goodwin : Yes, I’ve really enjoyed FLX Rieslings, especially HJW offerings. I think this rosé is done well and is very enjoyable to drink. Give it a try!

Lemberger 2017

Not sure what to think about this one. Less than 13% abv. This is a bottle that is a little bit perplexing, definitely not the best wine you have ever had, yet just can't stop sipping on. The nose of this is really interesting... peppermint, black cherry, ginger, cola. Entry has a touch of heat. Not necessarily acidic although it certainly progressed that way after being open for a few hours. Palate was underripe black cherry, mint, cola, herb, black tea and a hint of pipe tobacco. Medium bodied wine. Finishes rather soft and without much tannin. Really good balance and structure, although I do not think I would hold this wine for very long. This is my first Lemberger and I really should probably pursue others to compare as it is a variety I don't know much about. — a month ago

these grapes do come from the Magdalena vineyard. This producer makes a killer Riesling from that vineyard which sells out rather quickly every year. So I would imagine the location and the grape are probably rathergood.

Excellent examples to be found in Hungary (where it is known as Kékfrankos) and in Austria (where it is known as Blaufränkisch).

@A D I'm sure I will have to refer back to this notation when I go searching for those!

Seneca Lake Cabernet Franc 2017

This is Cabernet Franc in a Beaujolais style. Nose of this wine alone is worthy of 89. Bing cherry, brambleberry, oregano, white flowers, honeysuckle, full of cheer! Entry is medium bodied. Touches acidic for about 0.2 seconds and then goes to a brambly mineral dense red cherry fruit and wildflower. Gets quite a bit more brambly in the middle. Finishes with a candied cherry minerality almost like a dusty Luden's cough drop. Would have almost expected some bitter notes here but it never went that direction. Really quite a complex wine for the price paid. Although I don't really think this is a long term ager, it did require about 2 hours to fully express itself. Really neat wine. — a month ago
