Varietales Rioja Graciano 2020

Plum, pencil lead, cinnamon, clove, cooked blueberries, rhubarb pie, oak, cedar, with some tertiary notes of raisins and mushrooms. High tannins, medium plus acid, medium plus finish, and high alcohol. If you like bright fruity wines, this isn’t it. Rather, it is an interesting rustic wine that I’d pair with Italian sausage, pot roast, and smoked ribs. Drink now. I don’t think it would benefit from aging. — 3 months ago

This is an almost extinct grape varietal native to Rioja pre phylloxera, recuperated by the efforts at Viña Ijalba. Intense aromas of dark fruit, soft on the palate with concentrated fruit, best with anything of the grill but ideal with smoked meats. — 8 months ago
