Batch 2 not what batch 1 was. Damn, that first time I had this beer was the most fascinating and complex beer from Sfbeerweek. Finding out I don't have to wait until beerweek stoked me out but this one wasn't as stellar. Still cool to marry the idea of ale and Islay Scotch!!! — 8 days ago
The results are in and I’m happy to share that the 2015 McHenry is a banger; a fabulous effort by this tiny producer. Some VA on the nose but it’s perfectly charming. A darker core of fruit but more like compote, falling well short of stewed. Some pine tree and leather. Fantastic acid. Maybe a touch hot but that’s hardly taking anything away from this. Delicious with food and over time, seemed to take on some similar characteristics to the 1995 LdH Gran Reserva that we drank after. — 8 days ago
Piney, resiny notes on the nose. Bit of citrus reminiscent of a creamsicle.
Palate is all about the hops with orange, grapefruit, and pine. Good dose of firm, slightly earthy, resiny bitterness that accentuates the already dry palate.
Bit of a throwback with the old school hop flavors and firm bitterness. Very drinkable with the lighter malt base and high attenuation. Nice stuff. — 10 days ago
Have been saving this 1997 vintage for a special day and Father’s Day 2019 arrived. We grilled a 12 oz rib eye, asparagus, baked potato and had home grown tomato..... Opened and aired for 1hr. Beautiful! Soft but definite black cherries, hint of coffee and whiff of dark chocolate. Smooth taste that lingers with minimal tannins and the taste with a bit of bitterness at the end that adds to the taste. Excellent! — 4 days ago
