Wow this is singing! What a nose. Gorgeous lemon inflected minerality. Hints of attractive spicey oak and stunning rocky minerality. Tree bark and herbs. So good. What a screaming mimi of a nose. Palate is rich and ripe but also nervy and tense. Amazing purity buttressed by that awesome Meursault richness. Lovely texture. Awesome mouthfeel and a lovely lemon drop lime zest finish. Deep purple without a hint of any other suggesting improper storage. Classic if a bit understated Napa nose. Soft yet appropriately firm tannins. Ripe black fruits. Luscious wine. Suggest drinking sooner rather than later owing to fruit ripeness. — 5 years ago
Take a typical good-quality PN and amplify everything from color, nose, mouthfeel, structure, and length - and you get to this wine from Rocky Point, a steep hill above a lake in central Otago. Color is deep violet; nose is high-octane black fruits (mulberry) and ripe cran- and strawberries, and minerality and a sweet herbaciousness; taste is full bodied with round tannins, dense fruit, medium-high aclohol, rubber and spice. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 2023 (S) pours a deep ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe strawberry, Bing cherry, red and purple flowers, red rope licorice, rocky earth and cool spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. This vintage of Lapierre shows the warmth of the vintage and oozes generosity. In some ways, this reminds me of the 2015 vintage. Drink now through 2033+. — 4 months ago

Pale lemon with aromas of stone and citrus fruits with nutty notes. On the palate flavors of apple, pear and pineapple with crisp acidity, clean mouthfeel. Medium finish ending with fruit, nuts and mineral notes. — 2 years ago
This was excellent and had both a spicy set of flavors, white pepper, bell pepper and hints of barn floor, as well as a nice fruit set of flavors in boysenberry, and black cherry. Beautiful deep red and violet colors. Definitely seems like it could also benefit from more years in bottle. — 4 years ago

1st wine of 2021....had to pop something fun....jumped in the pond with the frog tonight!!
1.5 hour decant(little cloudy sediment). An alluring purplish magenta color. On the nose: expressive nose of dark cherry, campfire smoke, little Cayuse funk (luv it), vanilla toast, meaty, plum, floral. Taste: Wow! elegant, rich, juicy wine with mouth coating dark plum, bacon fat, soil, iron, and a smokey minerally cherry long finish. YUM, great start to the new year. — 5 years ago

Took awhile to open but once it did this is a pretty decent Cab - nose is full of fruit - blackberries - palate is a little sparkly, slightly underwhelms vs the nose but still solid — 10 months ago
Drinking this alongside some vegetarian sourdough pizza with red onions, black olives, veggie sausage, and pomodoro, was simply fantastic. The nose was solid, strong, and filled with black berries, cherries, and a tiny hint of cola. The flavors were very similar to the nose but layered in some vanilla, smoked meats and a tiny bit of acid. Also, it was widely accessible to folks across the dinner party. So long since I’ve had a Rockpile wine and loved this!! Black and green pepper along with dark berries (raspberry and blackberry). An excellent jam flavor that just fits so well with bbq ribs. — 5 years ago

Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a few hours. On the nose, the wine is developing with fabulous notes of ripe and tart, mixed brambles, blueberries, figs, lavender, a touch of animale, black pepper, rocky earth and fine, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(?) tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This seemed to get younger the longer it was exposed to air.
