Pumpkin Pie Porter

It is finally fall in North Carolina, signaled by the presence of pumpkin beers. This porter was brewed with pumpkin and no other spices which makes it tasty and not overbearing. — a month ago

Navarro Vineyards

Mendocino Chardonnay 2016

New vintage for me, no new wood in this, according to their website. Yellow in color, excellent clarity. Apple notes in nose. Peach, apple and lemon flavors with hints of mineral and malolactic on the finish. Lingering malic-apple aftertaste, ever so slightly tart throughout. A superior Chardonnay, blessedly free of new oak, and all the more refreshing and delightful because of it. Well made, and almost convinced me that my avoidance of Chardonnays is all about their high price, but not, in this case, because of a lack of quality. Good stuff — 9 days ago

Licorne Méchante

le ours repose ZINFANDEL 2017

Licorne Mechante (wicked unicorn) is where Les Lune can experiment. When the wines are good, we get some great buys. This Zin, as it goes, is very good. Spiced cherry cola mixology type stuff with cinnamon Hot Tamales and wild berries. — 9 days ago

Agharta Wines

Black Label Syrah Blend 2006

@paxmahle kills it His alternate label exudes a refined Syrah. Deep rich sweet cherry with perfectly refined tannins. Light hints of black pepper add depth and character. Lower amounts of acidity, mean this is ripe for consuming. Just awesome — an hour ago

Martha Stoumen

Mendo Benchlands Zinfandel-Nero d'Avola Blend 2019

Best Martha to date. Her wines get interesting at this level, beyond Post Flirtation. Here she channels Sicily and projects Cali through two grapes she adores - Nero D’Avola and Zin.Dark brew of juicy fruits and toasted spice. Plums, Driscoll’s blackberries, ripe raspberries. Cinnamon and cardamom. — 3 days ago

@Josh Morgenthau I’d say comparative. Blackberries - sour and juicy the way they are in the grocery store vs wild caught which I think can be more concentrated flavor and sweeter

Makes sense! Have yet to try her wines. Would you seek this out or another cuvee for a first timer?

@Josh Morgenthau she makes wonderful wines. I would skip over her post flirtation line of wines and focus on the others. Her wines are maybe slightly more expensive than they should be but they are very good nevertheless.

Matahiwi Estate

Wairarapa Sauvignon Blanc 2019

Lychee, spice and pineapple on the nose. A bit heavy on the tartness on the palate, but also some nice, lingering fruit. Goes great with spicy food and for the price, this is tough to beat. — 5 days ago

Deep Valley

Mendocino Red Blend 2018

With Jay and Deb. Fabulous with grilled burgers on pretzel buns. The Deep Valley of Mendocino Contry is a unique wine growing region that produces exceptional wines. The headwaters of the iconic Rushion River provide the lifeblood for the valley’s remarkable grapes. This red wine blend is a bold and rich wine that pairs well with a range of dishes from hearty stews and grilled steak to cream-bases sauces. The Petite Sirah gives it excellent structure while the Merlot Syrah bring softness and delightful aromatics. — 16 days ago

Te Mata Estate

Coleraine Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2009

On Saturday I conducted a Cabernet tasting at home with 8 mates. The theme was 2009 vintage Bordeaux v Margaret River with this outlier from NZ included. This had leafy minty notes with a touch of coffee. A medium weight palate with a certain hardness which was a negative. Still a good future. Ended up being out classed in the company to follow. I will drink my remaining 6 bottles over the 5 to 10 years. — 23 days ago

'Abstract' Grenache Blend 2017

Forestfruit-liquour. If there is such a thing.
I thought this was tasty, yet shallow and over-extracted. Mono-lithic.
