Olivier Riviere La Bastia 2019, one of Riojas young guns and a big part of the postmodern revolution of the region. Le Bastid is a 90% Viura, 10% Garnacha Blanca, fermented and matured in 500 liter French oak barrels.
With resemblance to a good Burgundy the wine opens up with ripe white stonefruit (plum juice, white peaches) and a lemongrass herbiness. Followed by a whiff of toast and nuts that lies over a stoney minerality. Good energy on the palate with a fresh acidity and savoury qualities on the mid palate that brings dimension and complexity through the finish.
Paired with an improvised salmon and shrimp casserole in a mushroom infused velouté topped with fried parsley and sourdough croutons.
Serve it at 10-12 degree in a burgundy glass

Wow, what a surprise from Corsica. This is a real wine. Thoroughly enjoyed at Blue Hill at Stone Barns a while back. — 10 months ago
My first solera wine and I am not quite sure what the solera process really is...involves fractions and lots of math, but the resulting wine is unique! Beautiful straw color, apricot and pineapple - honey and spice. — 4 months ago
This comes from two vineyards with vines planted in 1902 and 1920. The soils are calcareous marl and clay. The wine is a pure expression of its terroir thanks to its élevage in a combination of used oak and clay jars. The wine shows ripe and fresh red-fruit aromas on the nose with Asian spice and rose petals. Medium weight and moderate tannins follow on the palate with a concentration of flavor that is typical of old vines and wholecluster fermentation. They say Michael Magnien follows the rhythm of moons synodic revolution at each stage. — 6 months ago
The fact that Clarksburg Chenin Blanc is now available in a gorgeous millennial chic ombré can (featuring the skyline of sac) brings me great joy. Made by Colleen Sullivan, the young queen of Clarksburg Chenin Blanc. Honeycomb, beeswax, preserved lemon. More expressive after it warms up a bit (vs refrigerator temp). — 9 months ago
