Terrific old vine zin: full of aroma and flavor that was rich and smooth on the tongue and was perfect with pasta and tomato-butter sauce. — 8 years ago
Love this! Oaky and fruity. Delicious. — 9 years ago
Truly: fresh as a daisy w/ all the typical pelaverga notes intact plus another layer of crushed leaf and tobacco. If you're drinking gamay, poulsard, and trousseau and you don't treat Castello di Verduno Pelaverga w/ similar reverence, you're cheating yourself. What a pleasure to drink this at the estate. — 10 years ago
Hard to know how to rate this wine but certainly this isn't reverence for age. It has sleek leather and truffle tones with autumn leaves but also such charming fruit - silky plumminess and macerated cherries. Compact, even and flowing on the palate. — 11 years ago
~ And it’s growing on me as we breathe. Right out of the glass it was a bit tight, really as expected. BUT, after a little time to breathe I only felt it should be decanted and I’m thrilled we did. The title of the wine speaks volumes to the inspirations for Jason to give this a swing- and I’m THRILLED I did. Imagine a robust, meaty interpretation of CDP that’s open to chat. (And chat beyond its years) There’s a clear and prominent silkiness as it greets the palate but not a moment later there’s a fleshy/mouth-coating impression that nudges the mind back to the power it presents. All-in, the 2021 Modus Operandi “Shoulders of the Giants” is not to miss both the reverence for history as well as care taken to make it so are paying off. — a year ago

Great heavy wine for that thick NY Strip steak. Smooth initial taste with a strong finish. — 9 years ago
Amazing Bordeaux-style blend with coffee and chocolate notes and very well balanced oak. The fruit is not overwhelming. One if my very favorites. — 10 years ago

Ramon Bilbao Mirto 2009
92/100 The top offering from Ramon Bilbao, 2 years in French oak and bottled without filtering. They produce 4M bottles but this Tempranillo has won a Gold medal. Wow freshly opened bottle and the classic Rioja nose was immediately apparent. Aged mature plums, smoked wood, depth with a nod to reverence of Rioja. Soft round palate yet not lacking in power but an example of balance between Tempranillo fruit mellowed by oak aging. Very nice finish. — 11 years ago

Bart and Daphne Araujo sold their eponymous Estate and its jewel, the Eisele Vineyard, to François Pinault of Château Latour five years ago. The offer from Pinault “came out of the blue,” according to Bart, but it was one the Araujos couldn’t refuse. Not being ready to retire, work started immediately on their next project, Accendo.
.
The focus at Accendo (pronounced “akkendo” and meaning: to kindle, illuminate, inflame, arouse) is almost clichéd if not on trend for a new Napa project - restraint and reverence to the wines of the 1960s and 70s. Sourced from vineyards in St. Helena and Oakville, they produce Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc. The team includes Françoise Peschon, Michel Rolland, and Steve Matthiasson, as well as the Araujo’s children Jaime and Greg.
.
Extraordinarily mineral driven. My first thought was this is what Napa SB would taste like if it was made by Weingut Keller, mouthwatering, layered minerality with lime and citrus blossom accents. Yasss! — 8 years ago

Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2013: from Jay. Initial thoughts/impressions from a brief tasting conducted this afternoon. Brilliant ruby hue. The wine is a joy to look at - fantastic colour. Profound nose of freshly cut red cherries dominate followed by forest berries and some crushed vanilla pod. On the palate the wine has incredible energy. It glides across the palate seamlessly. The intense fruit that presents on the nose continues through to the palate. There is so much fruit here and yet not the faintest hint of extraction - the wine remains agile and intense and the tannins are ever so graceful. This is the finest Sassicaia I have had at this stage of its development and I would not be surprised if it is spoken of at a future date with same reverence the 1985 currently enjoys. This is simply fabulous. 97+/100. Drink 2025 to 2050. — 10 years ago
